Progress Thread Father Time: Dyno'd 970rwhp

Yep I am open to bigger injectors.

At the point I stopped, I was making 970 rwhp at only 80-81% injector duty cycle, despite differential fuel pressure falling to about 43 psi. When I increased boost to 28 psi, rail pressure dropped to 65-66 psi, now a dilta of 38psi. The pump was clearly done. With adequate fuel delivery, I was on track for 1,100 rwhp without changing injectors.

So I've got a plan. First, swap Grover's Weldon 2035A pump into Father Time and increase base fuel pressure to 50 psi. Second, upgrade to ARP Custom Age 625+ head studs and probably replace the AFR 205s with modern heads while I'm at it. I've noticed some minor exhaust smoke that smells like oil, possibly from the rings, valve guides, or seals. I'll also have the Box-R intake properly port-matched, since I was disappointed with the previous porting work.

Third, address turbine backpressure. I'll talk with Jose at Forced Inductions about whether a 1.44 A/R housing could bring me closer to a 2:1 pressure ratio without killing spool. If necessary, I'll consider a different turbo and converting to T6.

Restoring differential fuel pressure from 43 to 50 psi alone increases injector flow about 8%. Between that, improved head sealing, and reduced backpressure, I expect to comfortably clear 1,000 rwhp on the existing injectors.

Once those issues are resolved, I'll consider a more aggressive cam, probably a solid roller with duration in the 230s. But first I'm addressing the actual bottlenecks.

Got the car back off the trailer, last night, refilled with 93, and stowed away in my garage. Tonight, I took a close look at the coolant leak, and I'm happy to report it was just a minor loose hose. No need for engine surgery. So, I adjusted it and tightened the hose clamp. That also probably means the head gasket is less likely, though I still have a weird dyno result to analyze... looks like a miss or something.

Anyways, I reloaded the 93 octane tune, tweaked a couple settings to account for the increase in Fuel Pressure to 50 psi from 43. Then, I took it for a drive. Everything is fine. It's driving nicely. I even got after it in 3rd til I got scared and let out. Saw 14psi... prolly 700 rwhp.

Now, just need to clean up again, load onto the trailer, and cover it up. It's ready for Foxtoberfest. I think I'll drive it to more events, this year.

Something occured to me today, and the math checks out. The fuel pump should have had a lot more left in it. I want to test the electrical connections back to the 2nd stage switch. While I turned the pump up to the max the weldon PWM controller would allow, that's only 80%. It may not have been switching to full pump speed.

Edit: I crankwd the car and goosed the throttle a few times. Most of the time, the pump went full blast, but occasionally after letting off and goosing again, it wouldn't go back to 100%. I assume it should, like when I shift gears, but maybe I just wasn't on it long enough to kick back in. Anyways, not sure what to thing. Guess the best thing is still to swap back to the 2035.

You got 'concerned ' never scared :nono:

@General karthief Let's just say, I didn't feel like going offroading in 3rd gear. The car was changing directions but not from the front tires.

I hope you guys with these insanely powerful cars live in an area where you can actually enjoy them enough without other people scowling at you. Heck, I roll through the neighborhood at 25mph with my Flowmaster 40’s and get evil looks. Meanwhile the yuppies in Teslas doing 40 in a 25 don’t get a second glance. I need some really quiet mufflers where I live.

You don't need quiet mufflers, you need to get thicker skin or move.away from your snobby neighbours.

Just had a guy come screaming out into the road. I was probably doing like 32 mph, wasn't watching the speedo... They act like you just bounced 5 children off the front bumper. Roll eyes... don't have time for their drama... moving on...

You can't make them like it, I'm old(er) and get annoyed at many things automotive related, if I'm asked yeah, you may not like the answer and my first thought would be I don't have to live with (whatever annoys me at the moment) and if I happen to annoy someone I prolly had a smile on my face and that's what really made them mad :rlaugh:
Oh, aannd congrats on ONLY 970 hp
