fender replacement

Need to replace a fender on my 92 lx. Have seen nos fenders available, which wouldn't be too pricey, except that shipping is a killer. The replacement fenders are much cheaper, but I'm concerned about fit and durability. Anyone have any experience with the replacement fenders, or should I just shell out for the Ford fender?

We have a local body panel distributor. We just go there and get the panels we need a lot cheaper than ordering and paying truck freight. We have never had a problem with the non-Ford parts but then again the distributor supplies the body shops so you know they are gonna be quality parts. I would check for a distributor near you or call you local body shop (the body shop will sell you a panel as well). You may save some money that way, plus you know its gonna be a good part.

You can always stop by advance auto parts and ask them to check their second source for salvage parts on the computer. I work there, and I've seen a used 95 GT alternator for 30 bucks.

just get one from the boneyard for 30 bucks...

+1. If you get it from the bone yard, you won't have to buy the rubber molding for the fender. Just make sure to get the correct 91-93 style for your car. I got a near mint one, with moldings and fender extension for like $30. If you go with the reproduction you will get just the fender itself.

Just make sure you dont get one from a 92-93 since those fenders are different. The wheel opening is wider near the bottom of the opening.

Ok. Let me check out the local boneyards. I live in New York, so I'm not hopefull that I'll find one that hasn't rusted out, but I'll pound the pavement and see whats around.

One question though, you said not to get one from a 92-93, because the wheel openings are different. My car is a 1992. I'm a little confused.

The 91-93 Fenders are the same. The only difference I know of is that the 92-93 have body colored moldings instead of the black.
