Like the title says.... I only glassed a little less than half the tire well(might do a battery box in the other half) bc the whole thing is 2.3cu feet and i only needed .7-8cuft after displacement. All that's left is to do the top layer and sand/finish/carpet it. Any1 know what kind of sub that is?

It's actually only one box, just 2 pics of the same one from diff angles. If I used the whole thing it would have been too big. In the future I might buy another sub and make another to go next to it or use the other side for the battery. I just cut a board to fit in the middle of the tire well and then fiberglassed up the side of the board. Pulled the board off and there you go.

I would say that is a JL Audio W7.

That's a nice install, please keep the updates coming and if you would not mind send me some details on how you built it. Materials and such I hope to build one for myself while installing a Kicker L7 2ohm.

it's actually a resonant engineering SE 10"

Here's another pic....dont mind the ugly finish i haven't sanded it yet. All i have left to do is glass a few weak spots sand and carpet how much wattage are you giving the L7? That's gonna hit hard....

I plan on putting in 500w RMS from a Rockford Fosgate P5002 it's 500w rms @4ohm and 1000w peak power. But the data sheet that came with the amp stated that it will do 614w rms and 1256 peak power. I don't have the L7 yet I am going to order it this friday from www.thezeb.com.

Might be a little weak of an amp for the L7....I'd upgrade if you get the chance, L7 would love 800-1000watts rms.

The fiberglassing looks good...dam i wish i had a dgital camera i also fiberglassed my spare tire area and i'm currently building a pc box for the car i'll give you a a link to my car.....I dont ave a digital camera but there are some camera phone picture of my car. good job on the fiberglasing too i have plans on getting 2 adire brahma or 2 re XXX subs too heheh sneaky sneaky

I think that it's 300w per voice coil not 600W per voice coil and the max is 600W per coil.
So I think that 600 w rms is more than enough for one DVC L7. I e-mailed the Kicker tech guys and they told me that my amp is sufficient to power a L7. I should have asked what would have been ideal.

Either way I think I may just upgrade to a SX class amp from kicker around xmas time that or buy a 93 Cobra bumper. Kinda leanin to the Cobra bumper though.

Here is a picture of my spare tire sub box that i installed. I went for two subs, is that what you are doing. You will be pleased will the results. All i need to do now is put a metal protective grill over the subs and i still have my entire trunk's room with subs

did u make the box out of pure fiberglass or did u make it out of wood and then covered the wood with fiberglass? looks good so far.

100% fiberglass except for the speaker ring. I'll post some pics in a few weeks once i get it sanded and carpeted. Now I just need to decide which HU to buy to run this thing.

HBK: That looks awesome. Mine's just going to be plain and simple as I will have carpet covering it to keep the theives away. No false floor bc I don't want to add 2 much weight.

Nottoofast50 - how many layers of glass did you use. I made a mold of the whole well a couple of months ago and stopped at 5 layers. It was eating way too much money with about 2 gallons of resin and an ungodly amount of cloth.

Does anyone know if you can start glassing again on something after you stopped for a couple months?

i used around 5 for the bottom and 3 for the top bc i used fleece for the first top layer and it soaked up a lot more resin. I tested the box out the other day and found there are quite a few leaks where the fleece meets the glass so i'm going to put 2 more layers on it.

I started the finishing work Friday and Saturday (rained so had to stop). I screwed a 3/4" piece of MDF as the top for the box. Problem is I have a few gaps where I trimmed too much material. How many layers of glass does everyone think I should use in the gaps.
I was thinking of just using one layer of glass, or shredded matt in the resin and gobbing it into the gaps.
Then using resin to fill in the rest of the gap. Sound ok?

The Shredded mat will work better it will cover easier. I would say you probably only need 1-2 layer more around your air holes and you should be done. I have used 3 layers before and have had NO problems with it at all and that was with a hard hitting 15" sub.
