well, one too many trips to the track must have done this one, right... the track

-blew out my carrier bearing, and Pinion bearing I'm looking at a lengthy fix here... any suggestions? or should I just cop out and take it to a shop??

-btw, it kinda sounds like a turbo, but much more "whiny"... at speeds of about 15 and faster...

I was thinking, have a friend and I work on it and put some new gears in, along w/ a new D/S, U joints, I need a new clutch too... and getting some new misc parts as well, so a lenthy repair process is looming!

A gear swap is not an at home job dude, unless you have a ****load of tools. Good luck pulling those bearings off the carrier without a good propor tool!

My driver's side carrier bearing went out slowly over time. It just got louder and louder during the past 3 years. I replaced everything in the rear. I added 3.73 gear vs my 3.55s, 31 spline axles, and FRPP diff. Here is a pic of mine. Did yours look like this or did it break entirely?

I have Superior 31-spline axles, FRPP 31-spline Trac-Loc, FMS 3.73 gears, and FMS aluminum driveshaft sitting on the floor ready to go in. I will need them for the new combo...

Check out the link in my sig. It has anything you need to know about the gear swap and rearend rebuild. You could get away with replacing the bearings, but if you have serious plans for power in your car, you might want to think about an upgrade.

Just depends on what the future of the car will be.

well, took it to a friend... paid $250 for a fluid swap, full - racing bearing - kit, and labor... w/ my help, plus I got it done w/ like an hour before I went to West Port for the weekend but, gears will wait a bit, mine are in hella good shape, plus, have a ticket I'm contesting, so would like to see how that goes...

-btw, my beaing seal was broken, and the wall was cracked! so, it was about ready to literally fall out of the rearend! so, very good thing I didn't drive it to the beach how it was

well, we'll see if this bearing kit works better... I basically paid this guy $100 that went toward his next mod, and I learned how to do it myself however, if I do blow this one out by racing, or whatever, that guy will have a little visit from me
