Finally goin back together

That probably is the correct clutch disc, not really sure why it isn't working for you though. I'm pretty sure the FRPP disc is made for Ford by Centerforce. I went with a McLeod dual friction disc when I did my TKO 600. Worked fine for me. Have you tried calling Astro Performance to see if they've heard of this problem? There has to be a simple solution

you may be right. the picture of the FRPP one looks really similar to the centerforce one they sent me and they describe it the same, with copper/carbon material.

one thing i was thinking about... i used my tremec bellhousing, and the astroperformance trans has a borg warner case. is there any difference between the two?

right now with the input bearing retainer from the tremec trans it fits a lot closer than i did with the other one. but its still sticking out a smidge and when i tighten it up it locks the trans to the clutch and i cant turn the crank. my idea is get like 3 of those dust shield things and space the bellhousing away from the motor some and it should fix the problem. and it shouldnt really move the starter away from the flywheel becasue its getting spaced the same amount.

and the clutch is in there the right way.... gimme a little credit here.

i havnt called astro yet. i will tomorrow.

dude, it sounds like the bellhousing you're using HAS to be the problem. try a t5 bell and see if that fixs it. and all you people saying springs on the clutch disc go flywheel side...have you ever put a clutch in? the springs in the disc are exposed on both sides, but the part that sticks up off the clutch goes into the pressure plate, not flywheel. geez, common sense here people! like 87mustang351 said, it can only FIT one way.

yep. i went and took some mearsurements. the input shaft on my astro trans sticks out almost 3/4 inch farther than the input shaft on my tremec t-5.

and my bellhousing is about 7'' long. if anybody has a borgwarner trans laying around could you measure and see how long the bellhousins is? from where it mounts to the engine to where the trans bolts up. id like to see if theres any difference.

i have a couple extra t5 bells sitting in my garage. if nobody measures one for you by the time i get off work tonight at 9 central time, i'll do it for you.

*EDIT* i just re-read your post. your INPUT SHAFT is 3/4" longer? sounds like you have an astro t5 set up for an sn95 then. when you kept saying tremec, i thought you meant like a tko or something, not the tremec t5. the bells for both the tremec t5 and borg warner t5 are going to be the same. i had the same problem when i was trying to put in a tremec t5 into my old coupe. it wouldn't go in the last 3/8" no matter what i did. OMG, talk about going CRAZY underneath a car! i was sooooo pissed off and confused. come to find later that it was for an sn95 so i had to change the input shaft and retainer sleeve. fit perfect after that.

yep. its for a SN95....:bang:

could i use a 94-95 bellhousing?

Yes, but it will move your trans and shifter back 3/4" and your trans cross member may not line up anymore. The best thing to do is call astro and get them to send you an input shaft for a fox.

yep. you might be able to though, if you grind down the spot welds on the crossmember so you can adjust it. i just put my tranny back in a couple weeks ago and iirc, my tranny mounted at the very front of the slots in the crossmember, putting like 1.5" to move my tranny towards the back of the car, which is what you'd need to do. if not, don't forget to have them send you the retainer sleeve too.

damn, i can't believe you got that tranny flush with the bellhousing...

geez.... I was told that your only suppose to use the Centerforce clutch disc with the Centerforce pressure plate....because they have a different design... but i guess you'll find out

This is true. I would use it anyways, because the weights assist you with pushing the pedal in. I have used CFDX on 3 of my previous stangs. My Cobra for one (over 400RWHP) a 95 Procharged GT (over 400RWHP), and my 225HP notchback. Never had an issue.

Alignment tool is like 5 bucks at the auto store man. save yourself the battle wounds next time. Or have someone sit in the car with the cable hooked up and gently push it back and forth to get it to line up easily.

True, but they might now carry a 26 spline clutch tool. Stock Mustang clutches are only 10 splines along with most other cars...(Jeeps, Hondas, Camaros etc)

Ok, I'm going to explain this once....Obviously the alignment was spot on b/c he did manage to lodge the bearing retainer directly through the center of both the pressure plate and clutch disc....Alignment problem? I don't think so......Wrong size bearing retainer.....now that sounds a little better. Hmmmm...must be too long. If something doesn't fit.... don't force it....This is probably right up there with that guy that smeared grease all over the underside of his car.
