i got my quarter panels for the mach 1!!!!

drove about 60 miles to get em. instead of paying $300 for them on NPD or someother catalog, i found them on craigslist for $200. and it included a reupholstery kit, annnddddd the front shocks. im keeping it all except the reupholstery kit. its not for the mach. its for standard interiors. so ima make some money off of it. im so pumped. thats a big step in the restoration process.

im thinking of borrowing my neighbors saw (electric) and hopefully he still has his welder, if not my other neighbor has a welder but i dont know how much he would charge ( he wouldnt let me use his welder.)

Um, do you know what your doing? Not that I do but there's nothing worse then seeing a real nice car with quarter panels that are out of wack.

lol, yeah. i know what to do, i gota cut, and do spot welds to hold it, then when its in place, i gotta spot the rest or it, then bondo it to get a smooth finish, but i dont think im gonna risk it unless i got someone there with me to help out that has ALOT of experience. i dont want to kill it.

spend the money, farm that work out. It's cheaper to do it right the first time than to redo it because you jacked it all up the first time. Believe me hanging quarter panels is NOT for the novice, just selecting the right heat range and wire feed speed is something that takes experience. Its real easy to A. hang the quarter incorrectly which will then effect the entire way the car goes back together or B. Warp the crap out of the steel by either welding the spots to close together or not waiting enough time between spots. Pay to have it done you won't regret it.

I agree with everyone else, have someone who knows what they are doing put those on. You have taken the time to buy brand new stuff and you sound as if you got a great deal on em. No sense in taking a chance of messing them up.

Even if a pro does it, your gonna need filler. I would HIGHLY recommend having a professional body shop do it. I do this stuff for a living and it takes alot of work to do a quarter and alot more tools than a electric saw and a welder. Just have someone who knows what they're doing do it for you. And be careful, those quarters may not fit too well either. Unless they are NOS parts they may be a disaster.

im not going to use the full panel though. im going to use only what i need to replace the rusted sections. The more original metal i have the better. and i know, im going to pay top dollar for everything on that car. its going to take me longer than i wanted but its all in a job well dones sake.

You should just replace the whole quarters. The replacement panels have a corrosion protection coating on the entire inside of the panel which may not be the case with the original metal may not have. Doing the entire quarter may also save you some time in the body work department.

but the replacements are much thinner. i would replace the whole quarter if i had N.O.S. quarters but since i have replacement ones im sticking to just pathcing up whats rusted and sandblasting all the surface rust from the inside. but thats not happening in a while. that has to be a few grand of work right there.
