hey guys i have a 1966 mustang coupe 289 v8 with stock suspension. i bought the car with 17" boyd smoothies 2 on them and the front tires rub alot. i have 245/45R17s all the way around. the rear tires seem to be fine its just the fronts that have a problem. any bump in the road will send them into the fender. i dont know the backspacing on the wheels but i know they make a 4" and a 4.5" on those wheels. im pretty sure these are the 4.5" wheels tho. my question is if i get the same wheel with a 4" backspacing and sized down the tire could i get them to work? if so, what size tire would work?

Um, a 4" backspace will move the wheel out, hitting the fender worse.

Try this:

changing from an 8 inch wheel with 4.5 backspacing to an 8 inch wheel with 4 inch backspacing will move the wheel out towards the fender .5 inch. So, no. You can however put a 235 on the wheel you have now, make sure you the upper a arms lowered, and check to make sure the Shelby alignment specs are on the car.
