I decided to build a new motor and wanted some help on heads, cam, and few other parts. basiclly i want Ed to help me put something together. i will buy everything from him afterwards. it might sound dumb but.. my question is is it cool to contact him right now even tho i wont be buying anything just yet? does money make him talk?

im not in a rush and actually plan on it being done in march. my old motor (dart 331) will pay for my parts. which all will be pulled in dec and sold. but id like to decide on a head so i can decide on a piston. motors already in the works, so of course i need a piston.

I'd send an email explaining your goals and then get his response. I did it this way and he sent me his spec sheet to fill out and we went from there.

He don't give away trade secrets and you cant blame him...I'm sure he gets tons of people picking his brain and than not buying from him. He makes his living this way so I'd be guarded to. I have asked for his input on the 331 I just built and he gave his opinion to me.

Ed is easy to deal with. He isn't going to send you free cam specs, but a little conversation on the combo plan won't be a problem. He is pretty busy for sure.

Not sure if your know Rick but he's another good source of combo info. Lotta members run his engines. I spoke with him on building me a 331 and he was real helpful and reasonable moneywise. He's a member here as well. He'll def help you out. He deals with FTI on cams as well.

I worked with Ed and got all I expected and more

Here is what I would do before contacting ANY of the Pro's

Have your goals or expectations all nailed down :Word:

That way ... You'll be way ahead of the rest of peeps
who contact them and come across like ... as they say ...
a bunch of tire kickers who never buy anything and waste
their time

You'll start out with more credibility that way

i wouldnt dare ask about cam specs. i fully understand thats how he makes his money. i learned that when i got my cam from Jay Allen. i sent my sheet in and he emailed me back and then money was sent. he explained everything after that.. so i know how that goes.

i just really want to decide on what heads are going to be best for what i have planned. just so i can let my builder know which piston were going to use.

i might shoot him an email tonight when i get home tonight.

thxs guys!

Haven't dealt with Ed so I can't give an opinion on him. I will agree with Andy though, pretty much everytime I have posted about engine ideas Rick has pm'd me offering his help. I even had a few emails back and forth with him a few years back when I was thinking about doing a 306. He seems like a good guy and seems to want to help people as much as he can.

I do plan to contact Ed in the future when I do the 408

Might have to get a Dart block but don't want to and if I do, then 363 instead of 331. Thoughts on what I've already bought so far.......
