Hello, my apologies if this has already been answered in other threads. I have an opportunity to buy a T5 out of an 86 (e6zr-7003) and I am wondering if it will be strong enough. I know it is rated for 265 torque. My car has a 351 W in it with aluminum heads, 750cfm carb, and a medium cam. It puts out about 390 hp but I don't know about the torque. Do you think this tranny will be able to hold up to the motor? Thanks!

Hi
This may help. I'm running a T5z rated at 330 TQ, If my memory is working. Unless you really begin to "hook-up" those tires, you'll probably be fine. My junk at last check, was making 400 RWTQ at 4400 with 392 RWHP at 6000, or so. Thus far after two years, there is no indication of it coming unglued.
It does take a bunch of banging dragstrip type of shifts to break them. However, if really worried, find a used TKO.
Good Luck!

Thanks. I don't take this car down the strip, it is mainly a fair weather driver. I only like to get on it once in a while...;-). From all that I have read, sounds like it will be fine, especially if I rebuild it with beefier components.
