Foglight bulb change?

Changing Fog Light Bulbs

GP,

I bought a pair of the 9145 ST Silver Stars today also, thinking about the same question when I opened the hood, decided to eat dinner and have a couple of margaritas and tackle it tommorrow. The plastic cover on the top has some type of plastic pins, not sure what you call them, but I believe you have to remove the cover to get to the fogs.

You might try the Sylvania Xtravision H13 upgrade also, I put them in my car a couple of months ago and noticed a little brighter light. They say up to 20% brighter on this bulb.

I don't know about you, but I thought the low beams didn't put out enough forward light even with the fogs on. Had the dealer adjust the headlights some and with the H13's replaced got better lighting.

Haven't ever used silver star before or the 9145 ST, but will be installing Saturday morning. Let me know how yours does. Bought mine at Advance Auto Parts Store, have been waiting for them to come out for months to replace the stock fog bulbs. A little on the expensive side.....

to get to the fog lights, you have to do this:
1. open hood
2. remove the push-in clips on the radiator cover (you pry up the center)
3. remove the cover
4. look at the back of the grille, on the sides. there are several tabs that have to be removed. lucky for you, i removed my grille yesterday and can take some quick pics for you.
you have to pry on the bumper tab, then push the grille out, while pushing the side of the grille tab to the inside.

the arrow tab on the grille faced away from the grille, and the tabs on the bumperhold on the flat side of the arrow tab. bend the bumper tab back, so you can release the arrow tab. hope this helps.

heres some pics....

Fog Light Replacement

For some reason I thought this was going to be a really quick 5 or 10 minute job. Before I jump into this, how long did the grill removal take? I may just hold what I have. Thanks for info...........

took me all of 5 mins, but i kow what i am doing (bodyman). might take you a little longer, if you dont do it all day long and are trying to be careful, so you dont break the tabs. they are pretty sturdy, but i would still be careful. i say, it should not take any more than 20 mins for a rookie. installation is about 1 min. it just snaps back into place. also, be careful about putting in brighter bulbs, many people have been experiencing problems with the little black piece in the center of the fogs breaking off after new bulbs....do a quick search, there are a few threads about the breakage.....

Fogs

Took my first run at it with no luck. I can't get the arrow tabs to release and push back through the holes-maybe I just need to use a little more force. I'll try it again later after I think about it some more.

what are you using for tools?

Fogs

Just a screwdriver. The square tab to the inside of the arrow tab-do I push it down (Toward front of car) to allow the arrow tab to move to the center and pass through the hole, or lift up on it (Toward rear of car)?

Fog Light Removal

This sounds like I'm just asking for trouble, I do remember a long thread about someone breaking the black inside pieces of their fogs and some discussion about it being a warranty deal, as I recall now the thread went on and on.

Think I'll just hold what I have for the time being and see how GP's install goes and get a refund on the bulbs. The headlight change out took about 5 minutes each being careful.

Fog/Driving Light Replacement Completed

Okay,

I just finished, I went by our body shop guys instructions, (thanks) using a screw driver, I used it on the plastic plugs they eace have a straight side and carefully pulled them up. I picked up the plastic cover and placed it on my shaker scoop. This exposed the fog lights in front of the radiator. On each side there are two tabs on on top of the other, using a screw driver I pryed them back very carefully, the grill released, I pushed it back just enough to remove the bulbs, they released very easy. I didn't mess with the bottom grill tabs.

I carefully removed the stock bulbs and put the Silverstar 9145ST's in being careful not to touch them. Turned them on prior to putting in the light housing to make sure they worked and put everything back together. Remember to be careful about not hitting the black metal bracing things in the driving lights when putting in your new ones. The tabs holding the grill didn't seem to be as tight when I put it back together, but everything is working just fine.

Will wait till dark to see how they look, almost decided not to proceed, this was a 15 minute project :nice: I choose the Xtravision & Silverstar bulbs from Sylvania for my GT because they don't pull anymore juice from the electrical system. I didn't want any melt down issues with my lights.

Fogs

Yea, they're in, but I feel like a real dork! Read page 38 of the owner's manual (2006). After you take that black plastic cover off, all you have to do is remove 2 bolts and the whole thing pulls forward. When all else fails-READ THE INSTRUCTIONS! Duh! :rlaugh:

sorry, guess we all failed to the the instructions :rlaugh: i assumed that the bumper was a little more stout than that....did you do it? how far does it pull forward? i did it to remove the horn assembly.....

Driving Light Replacement

Well, we've been around the world on this one guys, when I was putting mine in I almost removed those two bolts to see if the piece would move to get to the bulbs, didn't really make sense when you think about it for this to be such a big deal when the headlights were a no brainer.

Well that's life in the fast lane.............:bang: :bang: :bang: you would have thought more of us on stangnet would have done this upgrade by now, well GP "when all else fails, check the owner's manual", to think I almost took mine back LOL.......
