For ppl in the 13's

tires and gears

with tires and gears and maybe a set of aftermarket control arms, anybody should be able to run in the 13's.

Does anybody ever remember seeing that link that took you to a 1/8th mile to 1/4 mile conversion chart.

I had it at one time, but have since lost it.

Mods and time are in the sig. Those times are with the stock motor, the 306 is still being built. Race weight is 3325 lbs. Dynoed outside on a very hot day after I made several passes so the numbers I think are kinda weak for my times. 208 rwhp @ 5000 rpm. 265 rwtq @ 3600?. I think it makes a little more when it's cool and fresh like when I ran my 13.41. The day I had it dynoed it was runnin 14.1's-14.3's on radials.

OK, let me clarrify my praise position. Sub frames? MT Drags? Anything less than 13.11 would be a dissapointment. Granted, 25thmustang may have left out some mods on his parts post, but there is no mention in his sig of drag tires, subs, control arms, or any other traction features in his sig. Since traction (and good driving) is one of the only things keeping most stockers out of the twelves, solid 13.0 passes with his rudimentary engine parts are damn impressive. Unless, of course, there are things he didn't tell us about.

I do run ET Streets, but no suspension, no subframes, no mass air, no other motor mods, I also have a shifter that I forgot to mention.

'87 Full weight LX Hatch. A/C, power everything, GT seats, full stereo and a gym bag full of about 25lbs worth of junk in the back.

Ported stock heads and Intake, 1.7rr, pulleys, 3.55 gears, full Mac Exhaust, Home made CAI, timing, etc, etc. On regular radials, 32lbs of air, no sway bar loosening, nothing 13.8's @ 103mph with 1 practice run with the G-TECH and one real run down a cold track. Could it have been better if I practiced a little and put the car on a diet? Sure, but I wanted to see what I could do any day of the week at any time. When someone challenges you at the stop light, they very rarely give you enough time to strip your interior, loosen your sway bar, change to a short belt and add a set of slicks and skinnies.

Thats why I dont street race... :D . Also I am a fan of full interior, and such, as I have never run a short belt or even had the AC out till now.

That's why I just run my car on the street like this. :D

Doesnt' take much to get in the 13's
My buddy ran 13.70 with:
K&N panel filter.
Underdrive pulleys
removed cats from stock H-pipe
flowmaster mufflers on stock catback
hurst shifter
pro m 75mm mass air meter

He worked it down for 14.5, took about 20 runs to get him there. (same mods)

I generally run in the 13.8-13.9s depending on the air. C6 tranny, 4.10 gears, spool, Art Carr convertor, 4 cylinder springs in the rear, southside lower and UPR double adjustable upper, original motor with 1.72 roller rockers, 40 degrees timing, 3,460 pounds w/driver, subframes, MT ET streets 11.5X26X16, 6 point roll bar. I use VP motorsport 103 fuel which alows me to have 40 degrees timing. No sense in retarding it since the stock motor can't rev past 5,200. I had it dynoed 10 years ago with the T5 and put down 222 HP @ 5150, 292 TQ @ 3200. I haven't really done anything to the motor since, but with the addition of the C6, 100,000 miles and 1,200 runs, I am guessing it puts out just over 200 now. All of the accessories are still hooked up except for the clutch fan, it is now an electric fan. Exhaust: 1 5/8 Hedman shorties, MAC offroad H-pipe with 3 chamber flowmaster dumps. The car has been a best of 13.73. 60 foots are usually in the 1.89-1.92 range. MPH is around mid 96.

25thmustang - same here. I have bone stock suspension but removed front sway bar, and the day I ran the 13.1s I had 1 working original rear shock and 1 broken one [no damping whatsoever - pull it in and out effortlessly]. I now have new stock relacement stockers in the rear and the car even hooks alot better on its street tors then it did before hand.. I figure i'll leave the worn out 100000 mile front struts in.. cause the more they wear IN :D the more 70/30 or 90/10 ish they will get. :rlaugh:

Actually my first mods this year before I hit any track.... are going to be some aftermarket upper and lower rear control arms [I was thinking the Summit Racing one - look good and priced reasonably  ], a powertrax locker unit. The stock trac-loc was getting 1 tire on a few of my burnouts, and on one of my launches the pass side slick went up in smoke on a 5000 RPM drop... on my last track visit.

One last thing, I got lucky because I started with a super lightweight too...

I have yet to have one complaint about my stock suspension, stock rear, and only a minor complaint on my high mileage stock T5. Personally Ford gave us some good stuff to work with, and it just takes a little to get a lot back!

Also my quad shocks are pretty rusted out, but I did have struts off a low mileage 91...

Mods are in my sig. It ran a 13.8 @ 100 in Orlando  . This was before the subframe connectors and with the second gear synchros shot. I think a lack of traction and gears was my main problem :bang: . I think I'm gonna go for them first on my next one.
