i have heard it before,Ford would not allow somthing like that to be sent out. or my car is perfect.
or must have been a friday car . this is the coupe i am converting into a fast back. look closly at the plate on the bottom of the drivers rear door post, the one with the oblong hole. then look at the pass. side. they have never been taken appart. they are both drivers sides. pass. side is inside out. someone welded a drivers side on the pass. side at the ford plant. now look at the bracket for the quarter window slider from the door post to the rear wheel tubs .looks like they just guessed at the location and welded them in. the pass. side runs down hill at the front and the drivers side runs up hill at the front . so if you have ever had some one tell you it must have been a factory screw up probably is.
this in not the only car i have seen with parts welded on wrong from the factory.my 69 fastback has the roof brackets welded on the correct side on the pass side and on the wrong side of the drivers wheel tubs.

Well they were meant to be affordable haha save money wherever you can lol. Explains why some of the old time mechanics I know do some questionable things

this is my 69 fast back, the roof brace on the pass. side is correct where it attaches to the wheel tub.the driver side is clearly on the wrong side of the wheel tub lip .they even had to bend the brace to make it work this is all factory spot welded . one coupe i worked on a while ago had the roof leaning towards the driver side of the car 1/2 inch. so if you ever wondered why one part may fit one car and not another ,now you know.

Oh I have no doubt that this went on. I spent 5 years working for an OEM exhaust supplier in the early 90's as a die setter, CNC bender and robot programmer and I can tell you that stuff went in the box that should not have, even then with data collection and serious inspection.
I cant imagine how great it would have been to work on a line in the late 60's, you could get away with bloody murder so long as it got covered up by the next guy.
