what in gods name does ford use to powdercoat there tin???

i tried removing the black powdercoat off my old stock valve covers with some heavy duty paint and varnish remover. i used this stuff before and it works great. i put repeated coats and its barely eating at it. i got a spare powersteering pulley to get chromed and same thing. the coating barely comes off. i removed the powdercoat off my old diff. cover with the same stuff and it worked easy.

whats the easiest way to get this crap off without sanding and sandblasting it off? sandblasting will leave pits in it which will make polishing/chroming a pain.

My buddies used aircraft paint stripper for their valve covers.

Yeah. . . . it's ALL about aircraft paint stripper and it removes baked on gaskets like it aint no thing You can get it in the spray can or paint can at CSK, Autozone, Pepboys etc.

I used aircraft stripper on my intake as well. Twice. It didn't strip it completely .... but it did better than any of the other crap I tried. Gotta be really careful with that crap, too. Very potent stuff.

Make sure you get the brush on tub though. The aerosol one sucks. I tried doing my valve covers with the aerosol and it doesn't work for ****. I ended up just getting some fox covers cause there was no way I was gonna make the stocks look good again. But the brush on works cause it has to lock in the chemicals, if you brush back and forth it will oxidize the chemicals and they won't strip.

the reason i'm stripping the stock valve covers is because i want to polish them up and clear them while i send my polished fox valve covers (currently on the car) to the chromer.

i used my previous paint stripper on my current polished fox intake and it worked like a charm but this black powdercoat stuff is like black death. LOL

the chrome pit.

they've been around for a while. the co-owner lives down my street and is a family friend.

just do a search on the web for them. heres there site http://www.thechromepit.com/

alot of people from the states send there stuff to them.

i'm giving them my valve covers, powersteering pulley, and maybe my heater tubes on the intake. my plan was to give them my upper intake but maybe next year. polished will do for now.

i'm giving my accessory brackets to a local powdercoater guy named joners. his website is http://www.jonerscc.com/

hes gonna powdercoat them xtreme chrome. i dont want to get in those tight spots if i polished them

That's retarded...I was so intent on getting my tribars chromed in 03, but couldn't find a chromer at all....ah well....

cheaper- polishing, if you know how to do it. all you need is some spiral sewn buffing wheels, a drill, and componds. sandpaper to and lots of free time.

longer lasting- chrome as long as you dont chip it and if it doesnt rust underneath it.

easier to maintain- chrome. my polished stuff gets dull fast and lots of water spots because of my ram air hood. going over everything is hard especially in those tight places. with chrome, all you really need is some glass cleaner and soft rag and go over it once.

chrome has that nice deep, dark, mirror shine to it that i love... polish has a good shine to but its more of a bright white shine.
