Forged internals....whats involved and how much?

Before I get a blower installed next year, I thought it would be a good idea to have the "internals" forged....but being unfamilar with the process...I was wondering if any of you experts knew....Thx

Basically its a rebuld. A decent bottom end (short block) with forged interals is about $3000 but to have it put in the car your looking at about $5500 for gaskets, labor, and misc parts.

That sounds about right - after you get through with the whole thing. I was quoted anywhere from $2400 -$3200 for parts and labor to build a shortblock and then another $1250 to have it installed. Then figure another $500+ for miscellaneous - oil pan gasket, timing cover gasket, seals, head gaskets, chain guides, head bolts,crank gear, new oil pump, water pump, etc.

Parts and labor to build the shortblock - then another charge to install it. I used someone else to build the block and a local shop to install it in the car.... I could have been more clear, but it's late.

So they rebuild your engine...to make it stronger, less prone to having something brake under high demands, is that correct? Im guessing they put in stronger connecting rods?, pistions, cams? what else goes into the process, im just curious.

Any recommended places to take my car and have this done? Im in the Southwest corner of Oklahoma, about 3 hours from Dallas and close to 2 hours from Oklahoma City, not sure if there are any good places near by.

This is something that I wasn't aware of before I got my motor. The price you see for a shortblock vs the price it will cost to have that shortblock all said and done and installed in your car can be drastically different.

well oklahoma doenst have anything at all i already checked into that...keith craft does shortblocks now...he is in arkansas. Im sure texas would have some place. I live in okc

i paid $3150 and had my brother install it. payment was letting him borrow my focus for a vacation and dogsitting.

Yeah, If I get internals I am buying a 500 beater to drive around and putting the engine back in my self. I am too cheap to pay some mechanic 1,500 bucks to put my shortblock in the car. How hard can it be?.. famous last words..

what's the difference between forged and billet ? is billet supposed to handle more power..there is a difference of about 1K between 2 short blocks.

Why are you replacing the block??? Is the block itself that weak?? Why not just replace the internals and keep the block??? IT seems like a waste of money to me to replace the block if you forge the internals.

billet is stronger and alot more $$. for most of us, billet is overkill.

an iron block is only $100-150 and there is no disassembly required. it's just easier to start with a fresh block and not have to take the old engine out until the new shortblock is ready.

Get a forged stroker kit and use your block if you need to save money. There's no replacement for displacement.

people seem to have mixed opinions on that. For N/A I think it is justified, when goind SC like a KB, you'll get plenty of low end torque anyways..but I agree there is no replacement for displacement

Ask Michael Kidd about strokers. He has a 5.0 ltr stroker in his car and he wishes he spent the money somewhere else. 4.6 is plenty
