Patience grasshopper.....you waited all of 18-minutes between posts after starting this thread after 11 o’clock at night and you assume the answers are going to come pouring in right away? Some people on this site work in the wee hours of the morning, you know?

As for forged internal components, I got mine through Modular Performance.com. I went with Diamond pistons and Manley H-Beam rods which is more than stout enough for anything a 2.1L could possibly throw at it. Don’t bother spending another $500 on a steel crank either, just have the stocker rebalanced. The stock nodular iron unit is good for well over 600hp if kept within the stock RPM limits.

the OP's question was actually a really good one! I've been wondering this myself.

I have a few questions.

I thought a forged crank would be way better than a cast crank, as if you ever wanted to really push the boost up so it could handle it?

also when you buy a forged kit, is there anything really special that needs to be done or is it something that a Ford Master Certified Mechanic could do?

what exactly does forging a block consist of? and could I use my stock block and how much hp is the stock block good for?

i was thinking of buying a forged shortblock from Modular Powerhouse, but they want $3495 for an 800 hp rated MPH Shortblock....i can't see spending that kind of dough on just a shortblock, maybe a longblock, but not a shortblock.

im wanting to push about 600 rwhp, but you know how that goes, eventually it would turn into 700 or 800...especially knowing the way I am.

also I'm putting in a KB 2.6 or a KB 2.8, just haven't decided which yet.

Let me put it this way, I've never seen or heard of a stock crank shaft failing. The stock block is good for probably just south of 1,000hp and as stated before the stock crank is rated for well over 600hp...but many have pushed them far beyond that. It's RPM that will kill your stock crank shaft at these levels, not necessarily horsepower.

The kits install the same as they do in an OHV engine. Tolerances in most cases are a little closer, but not much. I really don't know what to tell you other than if you decide to assemble it yourself, get a "good" shop manual (not Hayes or Chiltons) that contains all the proper specs and go to town.

And mixedbreed02gt, be prepared to spend some money if you dare to even venture close to those power levels. Most proper build packages will cost you in the $10-$12 range with all the supporting mods and hardware and can venture up to as high as $20k....so start saving your pennies.

To be honest, if you guys know that you'll be shooting for those power levels eventually, skip the 2.1L and go for the gusto right away. The 2.6L can always be underpulleyed to work with your stock engine until funds permit. But having to upgrade twice is not only expensive, but a big PITA to tear everything off again and start from scratch.
