Went under the car today my POS 1994 v6 mustang and see coolant leaking out of what appears to be the timing cover right behind the waterpump, or whatever cover the waterpump mounts onto. Is it possible for coolant to leak out of here? This sucs I was just starting to make progress on the Mach 1 and this problem now which will probally be diffacult and expensive to fix. This is my second engine in it and allready the headgaskets went and now this. How many engines is it going to take?

My fiance's 95 did the same thing and it turned out that a little Stop-Leak @ the site of the coolant leak between the front cover and water pump was all it took. Not a drop has been seen since. And for what its worth, she too has already toasted one pair of HGs. If you can pinpoint the spot of the leak, then try some of that stop-leak stuff. We've had it on her car for a couple of months now with no problems as of yet.

Or run a bottle of bar's leak. Great stuff.

I would guess it is likely the water pump. On a running engine, leaks in the front are funny as the moving air from fans and belts move the water so the leak appears to come from a different place. If it is the pump, the bar's leak won't help, but it isn't all that hard to replace it.

try running the car for a little bit then get under it, safely, and see if its leaking from the waterpumps weaphole, if it is, then its time to get replaced.

Do you add the bars leak stuff into the coolant and let it seal? I had stuff before you added to the coolant to plug a leak. Is it harmful to the engine, will it clog anything else up?

Thanks,
Jim

If you are talking to me, then what we did was actually put it in the little space where the coolant was leaking from. We didn't actually put it in the coolant, just in the little space between the pump and front cover where we saw the leak coming from.

they do sell a "filler" that you pour into the coolant. I've never personally used it, but I think it's copper based and "shouldn't" damage the internals of the engine, but I don't know what would stop it from blocking any of the water passages. With the 3.8 it's about the same setup as a 5.0 (small variations). It's not that much trouble to remove the water pump and change it if necessary

Bar's Leak is designed to be added to the coolant. It is not harmful to the engine.

I would get the bottle type, not the powder. I would also rule out the water pump first.
