Fram Air Hog filters...Opinions???

I just picked up a new drop-in Fram Air Hog air filter for $20.00. How do these compare with K&N? I'm really not interested in everyone's views on Fram products (I know, I'd never put a Fram oil filter on my car), I just want to know opinions on the Air Hog air filters. They are reusable right? Do I just get the K&N recharger kit when it is time to clean the filter?

Form what I hear there good.. I have used alot of differnt filters that you can reuse and they all seem to give the same gains.. But drop it in and do the airbox mod you'll notice alittle gain..Car will seem to rev alot easyer..

Just get a K&N drop in. Or save up for a CAI. You'll probably get one sooner or later anyway...

I run a K&N, but if you are looking for other options here is something to think about. This is a quote from a very knowledgeble person on k&n filters.

While I'm K&N bashing, I have another point. Let's give you a rag to cover your mouth. Then I want you to run around with the rag over your mouth and breath through it. Now, let's do the same thing but this time I'm going to put oil on the rag. Which way do you think you will breath better? We have a few knowledgable medical people here, answer that question.

I have NEVER seen a K&N filter gain power over a paper filter if the dimensions of the filter are the same.

I've always run paper elements on every vehicle.

The analogy seems to have a flaw in it: the assumption that a K&N is basically a Motorcraft paper filter with oil on it. I believe the element material on reusable filters is not of the same type as in a disposable filter.

So a maybe a more proper analogy would be something along the lines of "running around with a bath towel over your mouth vs. an oiled t-shirt"...

I have a 04 cummins dodge and on that side of the spectrum everbody thinks K&N are complete crap. they say there filtration is garbage.

so it is funny to see the brand favoritism between different modding comunities.

i have a K&N drop-in and i feel it will flow just as good as the air hog. my car seems to rev better and the gas mileage seems to have gotten a little better too. im gonna buy one for my expo soon

I have the K&N on my Stang, and the Fram on my daily driver. To tell you the truth, I didn't feel a difference on either vehicle after swapping from stock motorcraft filters.

when it comes to just dropping in a K&N filter it's not going to net much unless the intake side of the motor is unrestricted. There was a write up in one of my magazines about adding this part, gaining X amount of power then adding another part and gaining more up til there was nothing more to change and they gained right around 13hp with all the intake mods. They went and stuck a standard paper filter back in and they lost 8 of the 13hp from the filter alone.

I'll have to look and see what artical it was again.
