FRPP Supercharger?

Too much misinformation in this thread.

1) Whipple makes their own twin screws - nothing to do with KB used to use Whipple as a supplier. Now KB makes their own big bore twin screws.

2) The Whipple 2.3 is NOT better than the KB 2.6 or the KB 2.4
The KB does not drop off at 16-17 PSI (actually the Saleen blowers are known to do that.) Of the three: KB, Whipple and Saleen all make similar power and times at boost levels under 14 PSI.

3) The KBs don't have an issue of leaking oil from snout. I have never even heard of a single one doing that. There is definately not an issue with this on the S197. Where are you reading all these reports? Not on this forum, or MM or MF or on KBs site?
I have had my KB for 20 months and I am still on the original serpentine belt.
Never a problem with my KB kit. I dont care about goofy dyno numbers, but the installation of this kit, sticky tires and very little else has my fat old convertible running low 11s and trapping at 120 MPH.

if all the superchargers are similar under 14psi, what about cost and longevity? I really want to bolt one of these units up but can't seem to find an angle that makes one a better option than the other. any help?

Again, I'll repeat. There's nothing wrong with KB SC's, and they make great power. But, from what I've read, they tend to leak more than other TS SC's.

Let me clarify. Whipple was the SOLE importer for twin screw compressors for the AFTERMARKET and Eaton had exclusive rights to the OEM (i.e. Ford GT supplier). KB is in the aftermarket and did source the compressor from Whipple. But there were major supply shortages for the aftermarket as the OEM customers were given priority. This was compounded by the numerous twin screw company mergers in europe which seemed to make production worse, not better.

Since then, both companies, whipple and KB, make their own compressors.

That is the issue, there is no discerning factor. They are both good. I like the FRPP kit because it involved Ford engineering and calibrations. To me that is important. The last thing you need is to spend several thousand dollars on top of the line equipment of any brands and then have to worry about custom tuning and hack jobs by inexperienced tuners. That is just my opinion.

Looks like on some of those threads the supercharger was overfilled with oil! Also most of these blowers are not even for our cars...older KB models with an issue of the correct sealent being used.

Also funny how when I type in "Whipple Snout Leak" in Google I also get plenty of entries...???

Hijacked!

Since we're talking about this here, kinda...lol, I figured I'd post this up.

But what's the best price for the 500 horse SC? Or even the 400 then the 500 if that would be cheaper... I'm assuming this is also flywheel hp not rwhp. Bouncing across these boards it seems the best way to do some FI is going with the Whipple. I just want to get an idea of what is a good price and what I can expect labor to be. I'm guessing based on prices I'm seeing now, it'd run me about $7500 for the 500 horse polished.

Brenspeed sells the saleen 500+HP package (Stage 3) for about $5800 for everything. $650 for installation. So under $6k installed.

Hmm... forgotten about that... but not really wanting to change the topic away from the Whipple, but why would I want the Saleen vs the Whipple?

They're both good. The Whipple comes with the GT500 fuel pump system. The Saleen Stage 3 comes with a boost-a-pump. If you don't plan on upgrading your block or anything, you won't be upgrading enough to need anything more with either of them. To me, the reason I decided I will go with Saleen (whenever I finally get one) is that I really trust Brenspeed, and they're installation price is great. It even includes hotel for one night. If you're going to do your own install, then that doesn't come into play. But I'd rather have Brenspeed install and tune mine on sight, so I know I'm not going to blow my engine.

Wait they'll dynotune and give you the hotel as well for $5500 about? And no, I'm planning on anything crazy after this. Just what I got and the S/C if I do.

It's $5800 or so for the kit, $650 for installation. That includes custom tune. I dunno if that's a dyno tune, or what. If not, I'm sure a dyno tune wouldn't be but a couple hundred more. I thought I was going up in March, but financing fell through. So I dunno when I'll get to do it now.

I just did the math.... its a 13+ hr drive from here, roughly 2000 miles round trip... I don't think I can pull that one off.

Yeah, that's a pretty long ride for you. I would find a shop within 500 miles of you and see what they install and tune and go with that, if you want the best performance and safest tune.
