i don't have a clock, and the wires on the old radio-8 track don't match.so i don't know either what they are for. I will have to trace and see where they go. Thanks for help.

need help again. Could someone post i pic of what the end of the speedometer cable is suppose to look like that goes into the transmission for a 4 speed manual tran.my gauge isn't working. Were the cable the same for all the two,s.Thinking i have the wrong cable

I'm fairly certain that they use the same cable. Here's a stock photo from Rock Auto and it looks exactly like mine.

Don't forget it'll need an O ring.

i took some pics,i think i have the right cable. This is a pic of the plastic piece on the end of it that meshes with the yellow one inside the transmission, and the the threads are good,not worn or chewed up. Mine is a 78- 4 speed manual transmission. is the plastic piece on the end of that cable all the same, or is there different ones for automatic and manual transmissions. When i pulled the cable out of the transmission, I turned it with a battery hand drill. The needle on speed gauge worked good. So cable is fine. When i had the back of the car on jack stands i tried the all the gears. The speedometer didn't move, but i dint really give it any gas either.so maybe that way the needle didn't move. This is what i am thinking .any thoughts .........

That looks right to me. I don't recall what colors either of the gears are though. I know that T5's use color coded speedometer driven and drive gears but I'm not sure if they're the same as anything this early.

As for the speedometer possibly not working while in the car I think that either you're on the right track or it's possible that the cable wasn't seated in the back of the gauge when it was in the dash.

more stuff to think about. Found two more of these plastic cogs took them off of two other speedometer cables that came off mustang two,s. the one that's on my car has 18 teeth, the green one in the pic has 17,and the red shorter one has 21.the numbers are stamped on the ends. I have been searching over the net ,but nothing there about these cars. Maybe i do need the shorter one. not going to worry about it now, but a some point when i do take it on the road and speed gauge doesn't work, ill have to confront the problem. Hoping it will work fingers crossed.

I'm sure they're at least the same in concept as the later T5 gears. The colors of the gears denote which combination you should use with a certain tire diameter and rear gear. Here's a link to LMR's website which should at least give you an indication.

Side note: I know that the driven gears will work with our speedometer cables, so that calculator may be appropriate for our cars too. I'd like to think that that part of our cars work exactly like Fox bodies. The big question would be the drive gear's diameter compared to a T5, but I'm sure the gear pitch would be compatible if you need to buy a replacement driven gear to make it work right.

up against another problem. This car has been fighting me all the way. I noticed when I had the car running, when i tried my signal lights the rmp gauge would pulse when the signal lights flashed. Maybe i have a bad ground, or something. Has anyone ever had this problem. Thanks

Can't say I've run into that before. I think I'd take a close look at the printed circuit on the back of the cluster though. On a positive note, these are being reproduced, so if you find something questionable there's a good option.

ok,yes that could be the problem where it is the original. i see classic auto reproductions sells them. I do plan on replacing that circuit board, and putting led lights in with new lamp holders as well. Also could you post a pic to show exactly where the one horn i believe mounts to on the front drivers side.just bought a new one, never seen it on when i started restoring, so don't know where it fastens too. Would be nice to put it where it should be. Thanks again for you help

I can't help with that one - I lost my horn a long time ago and never have put one in. I definitely need one though.... I did grab the horn from the Mark VII parts car that I grabbed the drivetrain for the 84 convertible I had. It's one of those "one of these days...." projects. Maybe one of the other guys can help though - @2Blue2 @Enzio immediately come to mind, but maybe someone else will speak up?

The speedometer gear in the picture is one for a C4 or T5 for sure. The C4 is original to the Mustang II the T5 not, but both transmissions share the same speedometer gear. Because you have a original manual car, it could use a different speedometer gear... But I do not know if that's the case or not. At least 1gen Mustangs had a different speedometer gear for stock automatic and stock manual transmission...
If there are different speedometer gears that came with the car, I would try to identify them by part number if there is one on them. Or try the speedometer gear thats different to the one thats installed.
I T5 swaped 1gen and MIIs and don't have a lot of experience with stock manual transmissions. If it works with a drill, I would check the speedometer gear first.

Hi in distress again....... I have been testing my lights to make sure they are working properly. Everything works except my turn signal lights. Can someone tell me does the power run to fuse and flasher on the fuse block first, then to signal arm switch on the steering wheel column before it goes to lights. if someone could post a wire diagram for the 78 ,v-8 . that would be helpful.
