fuel pump help...ASAP

ok yesterday I was driving home....and the car started to studdder....had no power etc....well anyways i had thought possibly that I had run out of gas....so i went up and grabbed some more gas put it in the car etc....now the fuel pump will not prime when turning the key....ive checked the cut off switch in the trunk and what not but that is all kosher...the pump just wont prime....any ideas?..


.....and to make the day even worse....the last time i tried to get the car started, my key broke off in the ignition

Could bthe fuel pump relay, or most likely the fuel pump itself (from the description you gave)

well...was looking through the Haynes manual today before work.....apparently the fuel pump has its own fuse??....called my dad and told him to check out the fuses...and he found a blown 20amp fuse...gonna give that a try....fingers crossed lol

I had a similar problem that did turn out to be the fuel pump, I found out it was the fuel pump after using a friend's scanner. The code was a bit confusing, saying something like "bad ground fuel pump relay" but I bought an upgraded fuel pump, installed it and have zero problems.

The FP relay is housed in the CCRM. One can use the self test connector to jump the FP on for diagnostics.

Checking all fuses is the first move, as you know. I thought (vaguely here) that there was an underhood fuse for the FP.

hissin is correct there is a 20 amp fuse in the enginebay fuse panel

By "prime", do you mean it just keeps running and running?
If so, then it's probably the fuel pump itself. I had one that would do this.
It would stop pumping fuel, and the car would die. Then I would just let it sit fro 5 or 10 minutes and it would start back up.
Got progressively worse until one day it wouldn't make any fuel pressure.
I would guess this is your problem....

by prime i mean it WONT prime at all...as in...turn the key and you can hear it as the pump turns on the first time....right now it makes no noise....had a busy night last night....gonna try the fuses today on my lunch break....hopefully that works....

Sorry, I'm not following.
If you trun the key to on, but don't start the car, and it runs for a few seconds and stops, then it is priming, and your problem is elsewhere. Fuel filter maybe

If it just runs and runs and runs, then it is not priming, and the pump is the issue.

If it does nothing, then it's the pump, or the wiring, or the inertia switch, etc.......

haha....yes maybe im being unclear...turn the key to on...it does NOTHING....

Have you jumped the self test connector to see if the pump comes on? this makes up for a missing ground pulse from the puter, which is what completes the control side of the FP relay circuit and allows the pump to prime and run.

where is the fuse for the fuel pump??....i hate when my dad plays with my car because he looses things like my owners manual....
