FYI - Comp Pro Magnum Rockers will fit under the stock VC's

Hey I now there have been a lot of people asking about this lately, so I thought I'd let everyone know. I got my car put back together last night (see other post) and got her started. The valvetrain is noisy (may be related to the FTI cam), but the Rockers do not hit the VC's. I put my hand on top of the VC's just to be sure when the engine was running, and they aren't hitting. I didn't do any grinding of anything, the VC's are still completely stock except for a coat of paint. Just thought i would let everyone know.

Oh yeah, I used a pretty thick VC gasket, a Fel Pro, but I can't remember the part number. Something like a 1/4" thick. That may have helped things.

With my setup, it wasn't the rockers themselves that hit the VC's, it was the studs.

Dave didn't you use a .25" thick gasket too? Mark are you sure your studs aren't hitting?

Yeah, I'm sure they aren't hitting. I mine are 3/8" studs and not 7/16" if that makes any difference.

Great, I'm going to have to pick up a set of those rockers.

Does anyone know how these rockers compare to others? I know everyone on here use to rave about the Scorpions.

From everything I have heard about them they are supposed to be second to none. I'll give you a personal opinion once I actually drive my car somewhere....

They are suppose to be stronger than all the aluminum rockers (because they're steel) but they are actaully lighter than the aluminum rockers also because material that wasn't needed was shaved off.

I'm running Fox VC's (off an 87). One of my rocker studs hit the oil fill baffle boss (say that ten times fast) on both sides. I do have ARP studs, though, so they may be a little taller . Come to think of it, I didn't have the clearance trouble until after I installed the ARP studs...

So never mind me. If you use the stock AFR rocker studs, maybe it'll be fine .

I am using the AFR studs, so maybe this is why mine were OK.

Don't the AFR heads come with the 3/8" rocker studs? Why did you get ARP instead?

One of my rocker studs snapped, and rather than replace it with another one from AFR, I decide to replace them all with ARP.

Almost every aftermarket head comes with a raised v/c rail. This helps alot when using stock V/C's. My car has 7/16 ARP rocker studs, 1.6 Comp Pro-Magnums, stock v/c's and stock v/c gskt. I still have the oil baffle in and I have no clearance issues at all. My old setup was E-Brock Performers, Cobra 1.7's, nearly .600 lift from a TFS 2 cam and stock v/c's. No issues then either. IMHO the Pro-Mag's are the best rocker on the market (besides a shaft system). Scorpions are garbage...noisey, weak, v/c hitting mofo's

I know plenty of people that would disagree with you on this one...including plenty of class racers.

Keep in mind those Scorpion RR's are over $100 cheaper than the Pro Mags.

$100.00 is a small price to pay for the piece of mind of knowing that I'll never break a rocker. Cheaper is not always better.
