I have 94 Mustang GT 5 SPD and my gas mileage sucks...I know i didnt get a v8 for gas mileage. But I filled up the gas tank completly 110 miles ago and im already at less than an 1/8 of fuel left. And that is with never going WOT, yes with the occasional speed boost, but it was with moderate driving. What could be some causes for this. OH and like half of my driving is on the highway.

THANKS

Tune-up time.
Adjust timing.
Front end alignment.
Tire pressure.

Just a few items off the top of my head.

I'd run the codes on it, and give it a good tune up, air filter, fuel filter spark plugs, plug wires, dist cap and rotor. Do you have any mods on the car?

Something is wrong as I get 20mpg highway in my car... I got 250miles on my last full tank of fuel, and that's with my current setup.

are you being sarcastic or do you ask questions with that suffix all the time?

lambda is an oxygen sensor. the original O2's were referred to as Lambdas (IIRC, Volvo pioneered Lambdas/O2's way way back when).

My car is completly stock... How do i go by checking the codes, im not very familiar with the 5.0 computer system yet. I just recently did the cap/rotor, plugs/wires, fuel filter, and i just did the timing to 10 degrees, and i just had an alignment less than a month ago.

hmm, i'm sweating at 220 miles highway- but mostly stop and go traffic (the biggest on my list of problems with california) but i get about 21 mpg highway... all i've done is the homeade cai, well, pullies and catback but i don't think that accounts for much.

Dump the codes and see what the computer says is wrong…

Here's the link to dump the computer codes with only a jumper wire or paper clip and the check engine light, or test light or voltmeter. I’ve used it for years, and it works great.

See http://www.troublecodes.net/Ford/
OR
See http://www.dalidesign.com/hbook/eectest.html for more descriptive help
OR
See http://www.mustangworks.com/article...c-iv_codes.html

IF your car is an 86-88 stang, you'll have to use the test lamp or voltmeter method. There is no functional check engine light on the 86-88's except possibly the Cali Mass Air cars.

Codes have different answers if the engine is running from the answers that it has when the engine isn't running. It helps a lot to know if you had the engine running when you ran the test.

Trouble codes are either 2 digit or 3 digit, there are no cars that use both 2 digit codes and 3 digit codes.

For those who are intimidated by all the wires & connections, see http://www.actron.com/product_detail.php?pid=16153 for what a typical hand scanner looks like. Normal retail price is about $30 or so at AutoZone or Walmart.

While my 95 GT defininitely has "junior" miles on it(5,100), I get between 20 to 24 mpg with out trying very hard. Maybe a tuneup is due??? Mark

Yeah I'm only getting about 190 miles a full tank now. I haven't tuned my car or anything yet, but it does suck getting crappy gas mileage. Good Luck.

twas a joke.........

my gas mileage on my car has sucked from the day i bought it.....just got used to it..

Jason, cool. as we all know it is hard to infer sentiments from a keyboard. i figured you were making a somewhat snide remark at my old-time reference (though it is still a current term - if using a tuning device, the COMMAND LAMBDA [in regard to KAMRF, etc] is a common term).

i just took the acronym part of your post the wrong way. and Happy Turkey day.

BTW, been a long time since i was in college.

i think i average out around 10-13 MPG depending on what throttle i run it at all the time.......what are some causes that could make it this bad.......it would be more fun to drive if i didn't have to fill it up every 135-150 miles or so.........lol

my car has H/C/ ported stock intake......afpr, EGR deleted, CAI, full exhaust, underdrives, etc. etc. etc.........i know this isn't right if pauls car gets 20MPG making 50 or more ponies than mine.....lol
