Gas Pedal Slack

Anyone remember seeing a guy on another forum, can't remember which one selling metal inserts to clamp into your gas pedal cable? The nice thing about em was the support for the cable. I cannot find this anywhere. I don't even know if the guy sells them anymore? If anyone has a clue about what I'm talking about, please enlighten me. The bic pen method sucks, the cable eventually eats up the plastic. And when you do this, you only want to do it once because of the awkward stupid position you have to be in to install it.

I knew the MustangWorld article was going to get linked. Yes, but it's with a machined piece that this guy used to sell off one of the mustang forums. Any other way of doing it is

The reason for the slack is because of engine movement. If you remove the slack it is only a matter of time before you snap your throttle cable.

As for "never truly going WOT" the TPS is what makes that call and it is calibrated by the factory. We are not talking about vacuum secondaries here we are talking about a modern computer controlled car.

I know why it's there, and I wouldn't take it all out, but it's ridiculous, they should of just used drive by wire, instead of using a mechanical cable. It's the feel. I have to shift my body forward to reach wot in both cars (I tried the bic pen and nylon bushings in the coupe - that's dangerous because you cant support the cable end), otherwise it's not comfortable to drive. It's bad enough the auto gearstick is so far forward, that I have to lean up to reach it. For the cobra, there's a TSB for carpet interference, what do they do? Cut out the carpet?

Drive by wire on a Mustang? GTFO That's S197 talk... BTW the shifter is farther back in them too, perhaps you need one of those instead The 3V is pretty schweet if you can get past the ugly body style...

The Cobra TSB calls for a plastic contured plate to be installed at the place where the gas pedal mashes down.

I drove an 05 in one of those special SVT dealer preview events before they came out. I got invited as a previous mustang owner, and the interior is superior imo. I was very comfortable. However, the body style is hideous and unless it's a GT500KR it doesn't look like a sports car. Now I've driven plenty of z06's, and dbw is not the devil. Back to the issue at hand. Do you know where there is a picture of that contoured plate?

cool, I'll have to check it when I get home, 'cause we block every picture site on the intarweb @ work. The vert really interferes with the carpeting bad at WOT. I think 1/4" of slack removal would be perfect. I don't toe/heel drive in the coupe and obviously not in the auto.

Hmmmmmmmm.........I did this mod about 5 years and 80,000 miles ago with no ill effects. I would do it again without hesitation....very good mod IMO I used large cable ties (ty-raps) instead of a metal spacer.

I can heel and toe w/o the mod. But I have to put my heel on the brake instead of heel on the gas, like most people do.

I would say this mod is worthless unless you're looking for the last bit of throttle response. And it does not add any power. IMO, the stock setup makes the gas pedal rather sensitive, so no mods are needed.

For me, it has nothing to do with heel/toe. I wear a 13 shoe, certainly I can heel/toe if I wanted to. It's just stupid that the gas pedal is at least 3 inches further in than the brake pedal. When I want to go WOT, I have to shift right and forward to put the foot to the floor, otherwise if I move my seat up to reach WOT, it's uber uncomfortable....my knees are hitting the kick panel. I should of bought one of those machined spacers 2 years ago when I saw the guy making 'em.

My wifes stupid 01 Taurus has a better pedal setup and it moves. Go figure.

I'd rather not "toe-heel" shift when I can do it the "normal" way with a spacer. I left about an inch and a half of slack and the pedal hits the floor before the cable stops the pedal so I think ill be okay.

stupid carpet does snag my clutch every once in a while. is that tsb only for cobras or for all 99-04 models?

I saw it over at cobrabob's.....There have been cases of the carpet interferring with the pedal and causing a potentially dangerous WOT issue. There is a recall for this. I didn't track down a TSB #, Kilgore might know since he had it done.

I did mine about a week ago and I love it. I left some slack in there. Would do it again in a heartbeat. pedal feel is awesome, not all sloppy.
