hey, I need some help. A few years back I removed the back part of my exhaust (v6 but that shouldnt matter) theres a lot more people that view this section, and the tank will be the same, so thats what im getting at, well the exhaust was bent from an accident so i cut it off, stupid me let it be this way for 3 years, and all those fumes and condensation finally ate a hole in the tank, its an 01 so not too old, anyway, I need to replace the tank, is there any information out there, Im no idiot to working on cars, so I would think this should be a not so difficult task but any advise, writeups out there, thanks I appreciate it.

Its not difficult at all, like sgarlic said, all you need is a peice of wood, a jack, basic hand tools, and fuel line disconnect tool you can get at any autoparts store. And a lot of patience, it also helps to have an empty tank and a friend to help you hold the tank up.

I like Pro3 and all I got was this crappy CT.
I have to remove tank on my T/A to replace dieing fuel pump. Its much easier to remove tank from Mustang then it is in F-body....

Yea, If I remember right you have to drop the rearend to get the tank out. A friend of mine knows a guy who cut a hole in the floor of his T/A to get to the fuel pump. T/A drivers..... Pearl02.03ghoststang said:

Ya.. Rearend have to at least dropped as much as it'll go to get the tank out. I'm still debating about the cutting acess window idea... makes it sooooo easy for the future access, but just idea of cutting hole on my rear hatch area...

cut the hole thats how i do them and i make a tin panel to cover the hole besides the carpet covers it
Remove the filler pipe bolt and disconnect the filler pipe hose connections to the fuel tank

Disconnect the fuel tank electrical connector.

Disconnect the vapor tube fitting at the left front of the fuel tank.

Disconnect the EVAP canister tube and hose.

Place a safety support under the fuel tank.
Remove the front bolts from the fuel tank support straps and swing the LH strap out of the way

Remove the RH fuel tank support strap bolt and remove the strap.
Partially lower the fuel tank and disconnect the fuel line.
CAUTION: The filler pipe grommet must be removed prior to removing the fuel tank from the filler pipe or damage to the fill tube check valve will occur.
Cut outer edge of pipe-to-tank grommet to facilitate pipe removal and carefully remove the grommet from the fuel tank. Take care to avoid damage to the filler pipe check valve.

CAUTION: Lubricate the filler pipe check valve area and the tank-to-filler pipe grommet with Serfactant prior to assembly or damage to the filler pipe check valve will occur.
NOTE: A new grommet must be used for the installation procedure due to its destruction during removal.
To install, reverse the removal procedure.
Remove the front bolts from the fuel tank support straps and swing the LH strap out of the way

haha indeed im high as a kite, although il be honest, I only read this last few posts after I did the install since the thread died for a couple days, I didnt take note about the grommet, I wrestled with that tank like a crazy man, my neighbor came out and laughed cuz i was almost litterly hangin on that tank from under the car, finally got it out tho, and dont think i did damage to the valve since it worked before I put the tank in, and dont think it would have gotten damaged during the install process so I should be fine right? if the check valve was bad, what could happen? its deffinitely not stuck shut since i already put gas in it.

HEY HEY HEY!!!!! My fuel pump is still good but I need the 2 external filters off the pump. One is a 2"x2" sock on the side and the other is a screen about the size of a quarter on the bottom. These have fallen apart from sitting in rotten gas. They cannot be ordered seperatley so Im gonna have to shell out $266 for a whole new assembly. Any way I could get your old ones since your buying a new pump neways????? That would kick ass!!!
