gear/driveshaft question (can't find)

ok...i searched, but it's hard to weed out all of the gear threads and find what I'm looking for...so i appologize up front if this has been answered a 1000 times. I have 4.10's sittin in the garage and plan on installing them w/ my brother's help over the holliday. I was wondering if you guys out there who have 4.10's notice a loud 'shaking' or 'wobbling' sound from the stock drive shaft. I have heard of this on other threads, and was wondering if it's a definate problem that i'll have to fix w/ an aluminum DS or if it's just a 'sometimes' thing. Any info would be very helpful. I'd like to know ASAP so I can grab a new driveshaft and do all of the install at once if needed.

Nope, you won't need to get the aluminum driveshaft unless you just want to. I've heard of gears whining, but never heard of a wobbling driveshaft. That sounds like a yoke or u-joint problem. Good luck to you and your bro:nice:

Well you have a right to be scared and this does happen. The stock drive shaft isnt designed to dampen the increased harminics/increased speed at which its now turning. An aluminum DS is a GOOD idea with 4.10s...I am very tempted to do this with my 3.73s. SOMETIMES it gets pretty bad, but for whatever reason, only when I get all over it up past say 110. I havnt realli noticed it since I took off the dog bone that sits under the stock diff. But i would suggest buying one...many others with 4.10s will say the same thing.
Some may not do it...but IMO its not worth the hassle. WHY COULDNT I HAVE BOUGHT ONE WHEN IT WAS A $150???? CRAP! The price of $250 is the only thing holding me back....darn ford had to get greedy :nonono: .

Its a possibility that if you do hear a loud vibration after you get the 4.10s in that you WILL need to get your driveshaft balanced. As the car was not designed to be with 4.10 gears, you are now making the driveshaft work differently due to constnatly increased RPMs.

When i changed my Auto 98 GT to 4.10 gears, i would get a VIOLENT shaking/vibration between 80-90 mph on the highway. Anything lower than 80 and higher than 90mph and the noise would go away.

SOLUTION: Go get your driveshaft balanced. Its like $50 i believe around me, if you mark and take out the driveshaft yourself and just take it to a shop to balance.
