I know a lot of people have been telling me to goto the 4.10's for my 03 AOD.. but the thing is.. this is a daily driven mustang and I would not prefer the 4.10's so I'm going to 3.90's... My question.. will I notice a big difference with these new 3.90's from stock on my Auto? I'm also getting the JMS Peformance chip as well as my other mods listed below installed tomorrow.. thanks guys.

Well.. mathematically.. I should notice a bigger then small difference.. I mean.. from stock 3.27's to 3.90's that's 20%... plus the difference between the 3.90's to 4.10's is only .20 ... I know I will notice a lot more with the 4.10's but I can't see myself driving those high RPM's on freeway driving.. If anyone on this forum has the 3.90's on an automatic, please respond and let me know how much of a difference you felt from stock.. Thanks guys.

HogStang, I suggest delaying and going with 4.30's. Seriously. My brother put 3.73's in his auto and although he noticed a bit of a difference over the stock 3.27's, it still could have been better. Because of this, I purchased a set of 4.30 gears. Havent installed them yet but will be in the near future. I'll be sure to let everyone know my response to them.

This question has got to be the most popular of all.
I drove a Mach 1 yesterday.. those have 320hp and 3.55's. After jumping back into my car (4.10's), there was no question which car pulled hard - mine! :D I'm not saying the I could take a Mach in the 1/4, but I am saying that 4.10's really are the gear to go w/ if you want to really wake the 4.6L up. I was concerned w/ highway driving too, and now that I have the 4.10's I have NO regrets. I admit gas mileage is crappy, but that's just because it's so hard not to step on it :nice:

BTW - Just to clarify, this car is a daily driver!

Well guys.. I admire and respect all of your replies.. I'm still going to go with my 3.90's. Reasons being - They're not all that far away from the 4.10's and I really didn't want to go up to the 4.10's becuase I'm not all about going to the track and all. I mean this is my daily driver and although I know I'll be missing out on some pull with the 4.10's... I have a good feeling that the 3.90's should do the trick with what I'm looking for. Just love racing those uppity ricers who think they own the world becuase their exhaust sounds like someone farting into a garbage can. Putting them down would be great for me and I think with those 3.90's I can manage to let go the .20 that I'd be losing... Again.. please don't bash me on this response.. but I greatly appreciate all your guys help and replies. This is where I goto when I have a question and this is where I'll always goto. You guys help people beyond help and it's a great community. All those ricer forums do is flame each other because one's exhaust isn't as loud as the others or vice-versa. Anyways.. thanks again guys... been very helpful and informative. Peace all.

Well, I guess it's whatever you like. I understand that your car is a daily driver and since you dont see much track time, you dont want to go with a steeper gear. My suggestion for 4.30's was because most of the guys on here are about "sheer performance" and clearly 4.30's are the best bang for the buck in that department. Since your car is a daily driver and you dont intend to take it to the track too often, I guess 3.90's arent a bad gear. When you get them installed, please let everyone know what you think of them. Good luck. :thumb:

Thanks for the luck.. I'm gonna need it lol.. I definatly will let you guys know how the 3.90's do for me... tomorrow I'll be getting them installed along with a couple other mods.. my ud pullies, cia, and the ones listed below.. Friday is when I will be hopefully getting my JMS Chip put in also.. I'll keep you guys posted. Thanks again!

if 3.90 is not far away from the 4.10 then why not go a little step forward and get the 4.10? yes the rpms will be a bit higher but you'll also feel more power then 3.90

He just doesnt want to.

The funny thing is on the interstate with my 4.10's I still get 26-28mpg compared to the 29 I was getting with my 2.73's.

Hog,
I think you should go with 4.10's for several reasons: FMS makes them, your up against an auto AND extra weight. I have nothing to gain and experience with several gear swaps. You will regret not going with 4.10's! With your modular motor it will not cause any daily driver problems whatsoever. I understand your apprehension. A good friend of mine went through the same on his 95 5.0 auto. Every time I see him now he Thanks me for advising him to the 4.10s. (even with the 5.0 he has no highway problems) I just want to save you some money and give some advice. 3.90's I'm sure are great but are not 4.10s. Good luck with your choice, I just hope this doesnt become a told ya so thread. :flag:
