I have a 2004 V6. My gem module went bad and is not repairable. The repair place said I have to program the replacement. Is this something that I can do or does a dealer have to?

The other option is to go to car-part.com for a replacement GEM and replace it yourself. Then find a local shop with a J2534 programmer that can do it for you.
Or my Ford Service manual does not list the re-programming as a requirement for the replacement of the GEM. So maybe the dealer isn't being "truthful".

Thanks for the help. But I replaced the old gem and had ford flash it. As far as I can tell the problem is still there. I have a 0.25 amp draw. when I take out the number 6 fuse under the hood it goes to zero. What else could be the problem? Thanks
Need to confirm EXACTLY which fuse is in question using the numbering from the following link It does make a difference if fuse F1 (Engine bay) or F2. (central junction box).
For example. IF the fuse in question is actually F1.6, then this fuse feeds several other fuses. More trouble shooting needed.
