Geordie's 65 Coupe - Engine

I soaked the plug in penetrating oil last night. The plan is to remove the plug tonight with the largest drive in type 'easy out' that will fit. Hopefully the penetrating oil will have done its stuff. If not then I will try a heat gun.
 
in regards to your distributor, u said u wanted to replace your dual points ignition with an electronic ignition, but according to your first post, you already have an ignitor II.. the ignitor is an electronic ignition, and the II model is very nice. now an msd dizzy may be better, but i would consider it a waste of money for what you want to do with the car. the ignitor II is a nice kit, i have it, and havent had any problems. once again, if you have it, u dont have points anymore!
 
Yeah, I was floating the idea of replacing the Ignitor with an MSD. However I fully admit that I don't know what the advantage of an MSD over the Ignitor is, if there is one.

hummm, a nickname... that is long isnt it, its funny i dont even have an 84 convertable anymore. u can call me 84vert or something even though im sure there has got to be an 84vert on here. just a thought :rlaugh:
 
The plot thickens. I attempted to remove the remainder of what I thought was the engine coolant drain plug, the head of which I believed had broken off. Having soaked it in penetrating oil over night I began to drill a pilot hole for the ‘easy out’. It was immediately apparent that what I was drilling through was a plug of solid crap. I got most of it out and will get the rest with a thin rotating wire brush and finally chase the thread with a tap. I think that the plug is a straight thread and the hole is a ¼ NPT taper. I don’t know if any of you guys can confirm this? Can anyone confirm that the right plug length is only approximately ¼ inch long?

Now I’ve seen this amount of crap behind the plug I think that it would be a good idea to pull the block freeze plugs and see the extent of the crap. Hopefully the plug is in a backwater of the cooling system where the crap has accumulated and I will find the rest of the cooling system with good flow rate and clear of crap.

I’m also trying to remove the other coolant plug from the block front passenger side of the block, close to the oil pan joint.
 
In addition to my questions above, I found a round casting mark on the block with the numbers 19758. Does this signify that the block dates fro 1975 and is a V8? I know from the PO that the block is not the original.
