It's a mid 2000's 4.6 out of a police interceptor with 90,000 miles. It apparently dropped a valve, put a hole in a piston and then junked the head on its way back up stream.

I'm thinking of rebuilding this to put in my '93 4-banger. I guess my questions are: Would this be considered a PI motor? Is it worth rebuilding for what I want to do? What do you think a rebuild will cost me (I can do it myself, just have never done a mod motor and don't know how much rebuild items cost for it)?

Just looking for yall's opinons on it. I guess I figure getting the motor for free already starts me off ahead of the budget curve. I was going to do a 302 carb build, but I do like to be a little different.

I am 90% sure this is a NPI motor, the CV's didn't go PI until 2001 or 2002 just like the Exploders. I still would think that this car, with a nice set of NA cams and some PI heads could give your Fox around high 2XX rwhp...grab some Romeo PI heads and (cams if you want to save some cash) then go with replacement parts from either Ford/Summit/Jegs etc. Or even go to built forged stuff for a little more..

I'll have to verify the vin on the car, but I'm fairly certain it is a 2005 or newer. I work for the County and I'm friends with the Motor Pool guy who does all the maintenance on our vehicles. Any of our patrol cars that have less than 100k on them are in our 1st tier group, meaning they can't be more than 3-4 years old. So if it is indeed a 2005-up, I can assume it's a PI motor? That'd be sweet!
