The process of acquiring the needed parts is moving along more quickly than I had first considered :nice:

I have now purchased (although not yet in my hands) the following:
90mm Lightning MAF, calibrated to the 42 lb injectors (used 5000 miles) same seller and a new 255 lph Walbro fuel pump :Word:

I will have the injectors flow tested and cleaned :nice:

Now I'm wondering about how to put this all together in a way that will allow me to get the car to a tuner :shrug:

Can the PCM be sent out for a basic tune that will make the car driveable with these changes :shrug:

I'm not adverse to purchasing a Tweecer RT and attempt to do this myself :rolleyes:

Anyone familar with the Anderson Ford PMS series 4. Seems to be a plug and play version of the Tweecer :shrug:

What modifications if any will I have to do to the stock air intake system to install the Lightning MAF :shrug:

The seller tells me that the Lightning MAF has an IAT sensor and he has provided a new wiring clip from MAFAIR so it can be hooked up, good or bad idea :shrug:

Maybe some of this will be self evident when I have the pieces in hand but I thought I should ask now before hitting a stone wall :bang:

All help, hints and words of advice will be appreciated.
 
Your tuner will be able to burn you an initial chip that will get you down the road to his shop.

I haven't played with a PMS personally but I have read their manual - it looks like a nice setup. I saw one for sale for $650 w/ a 3bar MAP.

Congrats on ditching the FMU, with a good tune I bet you will pick up some power and definitely have some peace of mind.

Out of curiosity, does your blower have a bypass valve that bypasses boost at low throttle positions? I was talking to someone with a Flowzilla KB and they said that their had a bypass to only build boost when they were on the car.

I can echo what Wes said about the PMS interface :)

Many have been happy with it and obtained good results with it :nice:

Tuning with it and a Tweecer is very different but both methods can allow one to
obtain max power and stock like drivability.

A wide band would be needed with either method if you wanna be in total control of your tune and not be dependent upon other's equipment :Word:

If you go the Tweecer route, you should be able to get in the ball park with your
Closed Loop tune as that choice in meter and injector size is widely used.

I've seen the Lightning meters have a built in ACT but thats all I know about it.

I could not say what you will encounter with the installation of that meter.
I just my measured the outside diameter of my tb and ProM meter and
took a trip down to our local hardware store and selected what was needed
to put it all together :)

I did want to point out ..........
That maf is not calibrated to those 42lb injectors.
The OEM Ford meters are not calibrated to ANY size injectors ;)

We have talked about all that in length many times before.

I only bring it up at this time to make sure you know ........
It most likely won't even start up and run with the stock pcm programming.

The 90mm LMAF is NOT calibrated to any injector size at all - you WILL need a tune for it to work, unless of course the previous owner sent it out to PMAS to have it 'calibrated' and I doubt that.

For the MAF, you need a MAF filter adapter - it adapts the MAF for a 4" round conical filter (Jegs has them) and you will also need a late model MAF pigtail - F68Z12A690-AA then you will need whatever size silicon coupler that will reduce the 4" MAF outlet to your powerpipe - if you have a 4" powerpipe, a 4" silicon coupler will work. NAPA auto parts - if you have them there - sells big truck heater hose pretty cheap - you can get a 1' section of 4" and use it.

The IAT sensor usually is NOT part of a 90mm LAMF - it IS in the 90mm SCT MAFs, but ot the 90mm LMAF. If yours happens to have one for some strange reason, don't use it. The IAT sensor REALLY should be after the blower, which means either use the #5 intake runner (drill oand tap if there isn't one there) or in the blower discharge itself.

As far as tuning goes, I'm kinda biased to what we do, but either a chip from someone that can tune both KBs and SN95's or get a TwEECer and get good with it yourself. I do not think the PMS will work with the LMAF, but I could be wrong.

I have just the standard Blowzilla and it doesn't come with the bypass. I think the bypass comes with the Blowzill/Flowzilla combination.
 
What hasn't been addressed is the fuel pressure regulator :doh:

Is the stock unit okay for the task or would it be better to swap in a new adjustable one :shrug:

If a new adjustable one is in order is there a preferred brand :shrug:

As I understand it Richard :)

The OEM regulator will rise 1 psi for each pound of boost :shrug:

I can say if you run with elevated fuel pressure levels ............
it can hose around with the Closed Loop portion of your tune as it confuses
your adaptive strategy in the pcm :(

I wanna say I've seen it said afpr's cause some kind of interference
when running a KB :shrug:

I've asked the seller to clarify this for me. I did ask specificly about the calibration and he stated that it was calibrated for the 42's. I await his response. If I understand the issue correctly it doesn't really matter as the tune itself will address this issue. Is that correct?

The current standard KB unit for '94-'95 is their 2.1L There are 3 1/8 NPT ports on the blower discharge. Is this where the IAT sensor should be installed and will it thread into this location?

By interference do you mean a clearance issue with the intake :shrug:

Hey there, I'm the seller...and apparently a moron to boot. I thought that the maf that came on the lightnings was calibrated to the 42's unless there were some tuning changes made to alter the mafs readings to adjust out for a different size injector. Well....if you'd like a refund that can be arranged.

With a Flowzilla an adjustable FPR is usually out of the question unless you get a remote unit. You can only use the stock unit and in fact you will have to cut a little off the nipple to get the Flowzilla to fit - you'll also need a 90* vacuum fitting as well - it's all very tight. You also may want to ditch the EGR valve and have it shut off in the tune - if you are in a state where they do not do inspections. The EGR tube is a real pain to get in properly especially with the blower. You have to torque the blower down, then put the tube on. If you do it in reverse, the tube can prevent accurate torquing of the blower and you'll blow out the upper/lower gasket.

I assume you have a Cobra lower intake - if thsi is true, you can locate the IAT sensor to the #5 intake runner as the Cobra lowers are tapped for it. If not, you need to drill and tab your intake there or drill and tap some place in the KB discharge manifolf for this - and be sure whoever tunes it knows this. This is really critical with a KB because of the heat they generate.

my kirban adjustable fpr was way too big, so i had to go back to the stock fpr when i had my kb ... even that hit, so i put a couple of washers between the lower intake and the fuel rail to move the rail out a little

then again, i had a systemax lower and one of the 1.7L KBs, so what happened to me may or may not be the same for you.

Don I have the stock lower intake and the KB unit is their current standard 2.1L (#TS1000-94-95) This unit is installed ( 3 months and about 2000 miles) using KB's FMU. My reason for deleting the FMU relates to my concern of forcing 19 lb injectors to flow adequate volumes by raising the fuel pressure to 78 psi at WOT.

So as far as relocating the IAT it should be done on the KB discharge manifold.

Getting a TwEECer RT

I've pretty much decided that I will acquire a TwEECer RT and self tune :nice:

But I was wondering where I could download a tune that would give me a workable starting point :shrug:

Or does the TwEECer come with a menu of options :shrug:

I am assuming this can be done from the laptop without the TwEECer being installed :shrug:

As the 'stang is parked for the winter this should give me time to play with the TwEECer and get familar with its features and capabilities :rolleyes:
