Today was oil change day. I already had 7qts of Mobile1 ready to go in, after finishing I cranked her up to check for leaks when the oil filter literally blew off

So I call my dad to give me a lift to go get some more (another $40+). My dad said in his 50+ years of changing oil he has had it happen to him twice, both times on a 65 Chevy Impala..........thank God I was home and not out on the road somewhere (the motor had about 2 quarts left in it). Has this happened to anyone else

im pretty sure the manual says that the motor only is supposed to take 6qts

1. Where is the tech?

2. Never put more oil in your car than is required. You can damage your motor.

3. Your car should not be burning oil. Putting more oil in is retarded. Just check your oil peridoically to see if it is burning oil. Thats why you have dipstick. If it is burning oil, figure out why, instead of adding more oil.

Plus didnt most of the oil stay in the pan ?

You either didn't tighten it, or you had the o-ring still on from the old oil filter. That is crazy. And why do you use such expensive oil?? My supercharged Cobra gets Castrol or Valvoline conventional. Whatever is cheapest. My car has burnt NO oil in 54,000 miles and I don't have any problems.

because the oil that came in the car and that is recommended is 5w20 synthetic

Um I hate to break it to you, but synthetic is NOT what came in your 03. Maybe a dual blend, but it wasn't fully synthetic from the factory.

Um.... I've got an 02 GT and it only takes 5 quarts. SO what are you guys talking about with 2v's taking over 6? And I also run mobil 1. If you run your car hard it's good cheap insurance.

You either didn't tighten it, or you had the o-ring still on from the old oil filter. .

this happened to me once i guess dont do oil changes when your really tired.

I just checked fordtechservice.com and the spec for a 02 mustang 4.6 is 6.25 quarts?

thats why you dont read and work on your car while working on a bottle of Patron at the same time.

Ford claims it's normal to burn 1 quart every 3k miles. Adding oil is the right thing to do

mine doesnt, and adding oil is fine, overfilling your car are two different things
