Is there any way I can get into the 8s with the mods I have?

Last time I went (first time at track), I had the 2.73s and a some pretty ****ty launches and only managed a 10.03 @ 72.

Now, I have a little more experience, 3.55s, and working Trac-lok. Maybe if I get a decent launch and some good shifting, can a combo like mine gets some low 9s or high 8s?

Edit: Will be running street tires.

what was your 60'? 5spd or automatic? With a 5spd you should be able to hit low 9's. Slipping the clutch of course not dropping it.

60ft timer wasn't working in the right lane that night and that was the lane I ran the 10.03 in.

It's a 5 speed. I'm gonna try slipping the clutch this time to help reduce wheelspin.

yea, ive only droped the clutch once whitch was my first race ever, big mistake on street tires, got like a 2.3 60', just rev the car up to like 1500rpm and when the light turns green slip it hard, youll get a nice 60', powershifting will definatly get that time down, but you prob dont wanna do that, just shift nice and clean, get a good launch and you should hit low 9's maybe 8

Sounds like a plan. :nice:
At least a low 9 will look a lot better than a 10.xx

Shifting shouldn't be a problem. I've gotten pretty familiar with the gears and shift points. 2-3 shift can be a bitch in my car sometimes though. Stock shifter sucks. Sometimes I nail it good, other times it gets caught up.

Yea stock shifter sucks, but do you still have the stock handle? If you dont have the money to spend on a 180 dollar shifter, TRUST ME, ive driven a mustang with a shifter, my car stock shifter and my car with just a handle. The stock handle is long and has a rubber bushing between the handle and the actual shifter, whitch makes it move around alot and be really soft and VERY sloppy. Get a shifter handle for 20 bucks, its worth it. It wont be a new shifter, but itll feel like one, the handle wont move at all, and it will have that firm positive shift feel, and has that clicking into gear feeling. I never miss 2nd-3rd, even powershifting, my problem is 3rd to 4th for some reason at the track. Whitch is why im getting an MGW soon.

nice man, were the 60's working this time?

Thats not bad considering my mph for a 13.5 run was only 79mph in the 1/8. Once you find a way to launch it or you get slicks youll be VERY satisfied.

I watched the video. It sounded like you spun, then let off, then rolled back into it. You definatly need to get out of the hole better. I can't see what is really happening between the shaking camera and the distance. Do you have stock gears?

edit:
I didn't read you sig, 3.55's.

I don't really remember, but I don't think I let off. I might have eased off of it a little, but I don't think I really completely let off. Might have just been my ****ty attempt at slipping it. I was trying to be more concentrated on slipping it and getting out of the hole better than getting a good RT, but I failed. lol

I didn't think you completly let off, but there was definatly less throttle mid way through the 60'. I wouldn't slip the clutch, I would take off like I would on the street, once the weight shifts and it's good and hooked, roll into it. It's hard to say, you might have to try different things, because every car is different.

Yeah, I will try what I can to get it to launch decently with street tires. I'm faily satisfied with this time though. It sure beats the 10.03 I got last time with stock gears. Next time I go, I will probably have another major mod or slicks on the car. :D

There were some Foxes out there that were spraying (couple turbos too) and they made my car look like a fuggin slug. :(

Eh I think the rpms going back down was when he finally got traction, we all know slipping the clutch and spinning tires the rpms will go up, he probably only had the gas in half way when it got traction so the rpms went back down, id suggest not doing it so hard for less wheel spin and when the car starts moving about 2 feet floor it, youll spin but atleast youll bemoving by then it itll only be a few feet before you hook. Good job.
