Going to look at heads, intake and TB today.

Are those GT40 heads off the Mountaineer as well? If so, you may need to have them milled to get to the stock 9:1 compression. You may want to go higher. I also believe that the early GT40 heads on the Mountaineer/Explorer didn't have thermactor passages drilled. You'll need to consider that if you are trying to stay smog legal.

You're thinking of GT-40P heads. These are GT=40.....Off a 93-95 Cobra.

DP = Double Post

The "Yellow" (actually orange) injectors are 19# injectors. I run themn on my car.

Well they look a little different from the stock 19#'ers that I have so I thought they might be a little more. Guess not, but still a deal. I'll try to get soem pics today or tomorrow.

Early 96-mid '97 V-8 Explorers/Mountaineers had standard GT-40 heads. If you're sure the heads are off a Cobra (that means you trust your source) the combustion chambers are already the correct size and the thermactor passages are there. If not, see my previous post.

There are stampings all over the heads "GT", "F3ZE" and there are the 3 bars on each end of the head. Also the early Explorer heads were the same as the Cobra heads anyways.

No I purchased the heads from someone different.These were 2 separete purchases. I believe the heads I have are 8.8:1 compression which they may stay like that considering I will be supercharging. Or after doing some research, I'll find out how high I can safely go with compression and still be able to add boost. These heads will definitrly be ported and polished too.

ALL GT40 heads carry the F3ZE part number. The unmilled heads came on the '96-mid'97 Explorers and Mountaineers as well as the '93-'95 Lightning. '93-'95 Cobra heads carried 60.6 cc chambers because the factory milled them to get a 9:1 compression ratio.

Guess I have no way of finding out right now then.

Do the "P" heads have the thermactor passages and what's the compression on them? Sorry not trying to steal your thread Matt. I'm trying to deside on Explorer heads/intake swap. :)

Jarrod

:flag:

I'm pretty sure they do have those passages but not nearly anything like E7's. And I'm pretty sure compression is somewhere around 9.5:1-10:1 due to smaller combustion chambers.

TMOSS, What is the minor work needed to convert the TB so it can be used on a Stang.

Matt

If the TB is off a 96, it will have the hose connection that goes to the oil filler neck like the stock TB, if it is a 97 it will not and you have to take the one off the stock TB, drill the new TB and put it in. In any case you have to take the throttle crank (has the throttle ball connector on it) off your stock one and put it on the new TB or fab up a new one. You can weld it on, or use expoy with tech screws. You can use the TPS from either TB just the way they are - I'm using a 97 TPS on my car.

I can send you the pics if you'd like to see it. Just give me an e-mail to send it to.
