I'm going to look for a fan and some pullies from a taurus. What year should I be looking for, for compatible parts?
HISSIN50 said:Rerun, i would caution you to make sure that whatever you choose, it flows enough CFM's - South Bay is not the coldest place on the planet. you need good cooling.
any fan from a 3.8L taurus should work.
if you come across a mark 8, hoorah. ditto for a SN95 fan. these are all units that were made for 5.0's (i dont know that the taurus fan was ever used for V8's, but it has been proven adequate from people in here).
do you have a 3G alternator? the taurus fan sips juice pretty nice, if you are careful about what accessories are being run (Jerry Beach runs one on his 2G, but he says it is not the greatest set up. in FL he also only uses low speed).
my two cents. good luck.

MadMatt5oh said:Wait. Sn95's pulleys wont fit! EDIT oh ok, you have pulleys now
MadMatt5oh said:No, I was trying to warn you off using the 94-95 stang pulleys because they wont fit

HISSIN50 said:i agree with Matt (BTW, thanks for the pulley info - i did not know 94- 95 pullies would not work. i figured a 5.0 in a stang is a 5.0 in a stang. thanks for setting me straight).
i agree that the relay is absolutely necessary with that fan. it can draw over 100 amps at start up!!
i would contact Dccontrol (Brian is the guy to talk to, IIRC) and confirm the controller can handle the juice of that fan, if you want to run that controller.
it seems like a nice idea, as some people have had trouble with relays latching (even 75 ampers).
BTW, think of a relay as a switch. it allows you to use a dinkymanual toggle type switch and wiring as a means to switch the relay on. the relay is connected to the battery, and is very close (normally) to the fan motor. so you dont have long streams of heavy duty wiring running all over. let alone that many switches cant handle the high power draw of a Mark 8.
so definately use a relay. i would also use a controller - you might be able to get a cheap controller to work, with some ingenuity. and i would not run the fan all the time - it will take a toll on the charging system and the fan motor, unnecessarily.
there are some decent fan write ups (Jrichker has a post with several links). i have some saved somewhere also, if all else fails.
good luck, Justin.
