Ok guys, I am proud of myself for getting this far. I have changed my intake, don't appear to have any leaks and I got my car started. Put a stock 4 barrel intake and carb on the car. Autolite.

The carb has been rebuilt by me and now I am having idle issues.
The car idles ok but the minute I tap the gas, and it seems like the carb sticks at that point and doesn't return back to a lower idle speed.

The throttle return spring has good tension and snaps back when I move it by hand.

Another question, what is the correct float height ?

Also...I turned the idle/fuel screws at the front of the carb and nothing changed, I don't know if that helps

You need a vacuum guage to set those properly. If you can turn those all the way in with the car idling and the car doesn't stall, then you may have a vacuum leak causing the fuel to bypass the idle curcuit under the carb. The solution in that case is to tighten the carb down more. You did use a new gasket didn't you?

It appears I do need a strong return spring. If I pull it back by hand, it returns to a normal idle no problem. I have the proper bracket on the carb for the spring I just need to get a new stronger one. I will look to see which vendor carries them. I looked and a few didn't seem to carry them.

I did use new gaskets. I have another set because I know this is a learning process and I can screw up so I felt like it couldn't hurt to have a second set.

I have a new vacuum gauge as well but I haven't been able to use it just yet. I figure it doesn't make sense to adjust those til I get it to work I can move the linkage back and forth without it sticking.
