Today while at the junkyard i came across a 1997 all wheel drive v8 explorer. The intake was clearly a gt40 style intake.. but when i got to the heads i saw "GT" and the three bars, but i did not see gt40 ir gt40p

I am sure the intake will bolt on to my 89 LX, but will the heads offer comparable performance to heads labeled gt40P? If it counts any the plugs were angled.

I can also post pics if needed. I got the heads and upper/lower intake for under 200 at the junkyard. Im hoping i made a good buy!

Sounds like it has the GT40s on it. The three bar heads are GT40s and the 4 bar heads are gt40Ps if I remember correctly.

My P heads also have GTP cast into them so I would imagine that the GT40s would say GT.

For $200 I would say yes you got a good deal.

Thanks guys. I was a bit unsure if they were worth all the labor in taking them off of that explorer. I was expecting to see gt40 cast into them, so i was a bit unsure.

I plan to have them fully ported. Does anyone know what size the valves are in the stock gt40s? They look pretty big.

That is a steal!! I sold a set of GT40 heads with one bent valve for 300! I gave the lower intake to my friend who ebayed it for 150+shipping. I don't know what I did with the upper I think I lost it or tossed it...I didn't know it would work on a Mustang...(that was a few years ago)
