Is that 225 hp and 300 ftlbs at the wheels or is that at the fly? i'm just curious because if its at the fly that means only about 170 to 180 get to the wheels. thats pittyful. now these SS Camaro are putting 302 hp to the wheels stock. How come so much difference and 5.0's are the best to play with? ricers respect the 5.0 or mustang more than the Camaro. When the Cam puts more to the ground. Cause you never hear them say they raced camaro's it's like they use our cars as their baseline on how badly they get beat. Just Curious

stock mustangs usually put 180-190 to the wheels

comparing a stock 15 year old mustang motor to a brand new 5.7 liter camaro motor seems a little silly to me, but what do i know

if you dont like mustangs though, this sure isnt the site for you

I love my Stang. but you didn't catch what i was saying, heres an easier way : Ricers have more respect to a 5.0 than a SS Camaro, Why do they use and race 5.0's and use that as a baseline of how bad they were beat. does that sum it up better.

yep at the flywheel. ive seen them dyno at 250hp@the flywheel all stock with 10*timing.

the best part of a 5.0 mustang is there light and the computer excepts just about everything you do to it without using a chip. the after market parts are cheap and plantifull compare to other cars. take my 87lx for intence it ran low14s all day completly stock. then i added 3.73gears it would run 13.70s all day add heads and intake boom your in the 12s then a cam and your a little faster with a 150 shot i was down to low 11s as you can see it doesnt take much to go fast with a stang for cheap.

now with all the stroker motors blowers turbos its easer than ever.

also look at how old the 5.0 is most of these stangs are 15years old.

Or you could look at it this way buy an 87 to 93 stang in good shape meaning interior and paint. You'll probably spend estimate here 2000 to say 7000 just for this comparison. Then you decide to give it more power. So you buy heads, intake, cam say a DSS 331 shortblock, Slap on a supercharger, some gears and slicks and you make more power and be quicker than a Camaro SS and spend alot less than 27000 or so. To me that is a win win situation. One you have a Mustang although may not be brand new. Two you have a ton of power which equals FUN. Three you get to spank the guys who think their new car will crush your old 5.0. Four Beating one of these cars with their wife or girlfriend in with them= PRICELESS.

yea, u cant really compare a 15 year old stang to like a 2000 cam, its kinda of nice that you do compare us to them tho, makes us feel special anyways who caes how much hp we have its all about getting down the track and if i can do it in 13 secs i dont care how much hp i have

okay okay truth be told RWHP is more like 185-195 for most mustangs. that being said, a lot of the stangs came out tweaked because the engineers building them did extra sh@# to them....so i've seen with advanced timing, like the guy above said, 220RWHP off a dozen or so mustangs.....kinda of amazing?

also, don't forget we are talking 10-15 years old engines...again these engines aren't that bad if you consider this....i can still put the SMACK down on my friends NEW V-6 Hyundai Tiburon GT (most engines are tweaked past or near 5.0 power, like the VTec) with just bolt ons.... i pull on him top end...

Oh yeah, one more thing, thats the one thing i loved about 5.0 mustangs. two words for you.........
CHEAP PERFORMANCE
Buy a healthy 5.0 for 5K$, maybe even rebuild the engine for blower (should come with it for that price)?!?! Strap on a supercharger for 3k$ more and turn up the boost. Now tell me that 10K$ to go as fast as a Vette? is worth the Vette's 40K$ + price tag? i don't think so...you want handling...you can get there with another 10K$ at least... thats 20K$ total for a car that performs better (handling wise) and goes faster than a vette...making my point yet?

I think ricers use the 5.0 mustangs as a baseline because they are widely popular and the ricers know that they can be made fast as hell for cheap.

I think the answer lies in the fact that the Camaro was so anemic for so long. Face it, from 1986-1993 the 5.0 OWNED the Camaro, and they could be had with 50 more cubic inches. The only Z28 that I knew of that could give a 5.0 a run for it's money back in the day was a low option, no AC, no Radio 1LE option, and then, it did not beat it by much. In 1993, with the 275HP LT1, things got better, but the SVT Cobra simply walked all over them, and again, stole the spotlight from the bowtie boys.

If you look at the aftermarket for Fox Bodied stangs...it's HUGE. Think about it, if you want to do a HCI swap on a 5.0, your choice of heads, cams, intakes, exhaust, etc. is HUGE. If you want to do a HCI swap on an F body, where do you turn and what options do you have? The liklihood of that mild mannered Fox body being an 11 second street warrior is a lot higher than that LS1 powered F body...granted, that F body will be a solid low 13 second/high 12 second car, but taking it to the next level is TOUGH.

I don't mean that as a slam on LS1's or F bodies at ALL...in fact, I would love to have a 2002 Camaro SS to park next to my 1993 notch. A good friend of mine has a 1998 LS1 wtih a 6 speed and 3.73:1 gears..he drove the thing to the drag strip, ran a bunch of 12.90's, and drove home, and still managed 25 mpg the entire time while running the AC...what the heck is not to love?

Hax

Maybe because most f-bodies are fugly and they do have some weak points like the rear end, weight, price of mods, price of car, 4l60E trannies suck...my friend runs 12.4's all motor but he's on his 3rd trans.

Click on my link 87 5.0 GT and see what I have for mods and compare to the dyno sheet on there. I was pleased with the dyno numbers.

Pretty much GTO's started the first muscle car era,,and arguably 5.0's were the start of the 2nd one.Yeah in 82 Firebirds and camaro's tried, but those 305's were a very lame atempt When the Mustang came out with the roller cam in 85,they were pretty much the car to beat in the 80's After that cars just got faster and faster.
