Got in a lill argument with Da Silvia at Performance World

I was in Toronto today to see some cars at Performance World. I saw Da Sivila there and asked them about the UPR clutch quadrant and FW adj. Thay said That it WILL NOT work with a stock oem cluch cable and I told them that I was pretty sure it would. I wasn't planning on buying theese from them cause I just got them off ebay but I acted interested to get a bit of info from them. He told me he puts down 500 hp to the wheels and still running stock quadrant and cable. Then he asked why I want it is your curren't stock one broke. I said no I was just looking for some adjustability and a nicer clutch feel. So to make a long story a little shorter he was kinda rude to me and talked me out of buying from them (didn't plan on buying something I already bought anyway). When I left them I seen the Ford Racing booth and asked them if the Quad and FW adj would work with the oem cable and they said according to thier book it says the Steeda stuff will so there should be no reason the UPR wont. Was I right or did I make an ass out of myself.

Everything I have ever read in books, mags, catalogs, or websites says that the cable you use is not an issue. Some are more effective/easier to use with the different brands of quadrants and FWA's, but the choice of cable to use is preference and function. So, you were not an ass...Da Sivila was.

I live in Toronto and I e-mailed Da Silva racing last year inquiring about aftermarket quadrants and firewall adjusters and got the same opinion from him as you did.

For some reason,Joe is not a fan of aftermarket quads and fw adjusters and does not like them.He said many people put them in and are disappointed and then reinstall the factory quadrant.

He advised me not to get any of the aftermarket stuff,but was more than happy to install a brand new Ford plastic quadrant for $350.00,(parts and labour incl).

I had several e-mails with him on this subject where I stated that I could find no negative comments on the forums about aftermarket quads and fw adjusters but he would not budge on his position that the OEM plastic quad was the best.

I can`t figure out his position on this issue.

Sure, adjustments can be a bit troubling at first to find that perfect position that feels best and allows for quick clutch action, but the plastic piece just plain sucked. End of story.

i have to admit ive never messed with aftermarket quadrants as of yet, since my stock piece is still doing fine. but ive always wondered what the deal is on these things.

this thread just reminded me of a feature car (FoxRod i think) in one of the recent 5.0 Mustang mags. the owner said he has something like over 50k invested in his car. and after reading the article and looking at the parts list on it you can see everything was carefully taken into consideration and nothing was overlooked. however, it was also noted that one of the only few stock remaining parts from the factory was the clutch cable and plastic quadrant. needless to say, i found that rather interesting.

I'm using the UPR quad and FW adj with an oem cable. I actually used a '95 mustang cable and had to cut it a bit (the plastic around where it mounts to the adjuster).

My stocker is doing fine as well. Once I switch to a TKO setup, I will get an aftermarket one though.

i like my aftermarket setup. the factory quad kept slipping on me. what a twit to talk you out of buying his product. not very good business sense.

Ford should have made the quadrants out of aluminum or even light weight chromemoly steel in the first place then there would likely be no aftermarket quads and fw adjusters.

Plastic was a bad choice imo.

Yeah, the factory piece started making my pedal feel like I had a crazy hard clutch...when it was just a stock replacement. I swapped the quadrant prior to installing the King Cobra...even with the stock clutch, pedal action became 100x better.

so what are you supposed to have 600 hp at the wheels to have a adjustable quad.

that part of his argument was stupid as hell. the use of a aftermarket quad has NOTHING to do with how fast your car is. my car was stock and i could not disengage the clutch even with the pedal buried into the rug. I tryed a million times pulling up on the pedal and nothing.

i run FRPP clutch quad kit.. adj cable and there quadrant... good stuff.. and completely made my tranny shift like new..

Roland: Joe is a great guy and very honest, he was just trying to save you the money and hassle. Obviously he's had bad luck with quads/adjusters so he has given it up entirely.

i spent a little over 100.00 on new quadrant, cable & adjuster. it was all garbage. after 6 months i installed new factory quadrant, pawl, cable & its never been better. every car i have ever driven w/ the adjustable clutch setup has sucked & couldnt beat the stock/factory setup. just save the money for a better mod.

Stock cable you probally do need a FWA. Maby some luck out and a factory cable works fine with just a quadrant. Many aftermarket cables have a tendancy to stretch or break, and a proper working OEM quadrant is a good unit, but not worth replacing with another factory one. Quadrant/Cable setups are just to plentifull and cheap to even argue about.

the upr quadrant is a peice anyway...three of my friends have had cables break because there is no spacer to put between the pedal assmebly on the rod that the quadrant slides on. Go with a steeda one

What brand of quad,fw adjuster and cable did you buy and what was the problem with them?
Was it a crap aftermarket cable giving problems or the actual quad and fw adjuster as well?

I bought the UPR quick release quadrant and adjustable fire wall unit about 5 years ago for $40 total at WFC and they have worked flawlessly with my stock cable ever since.
