well as some of you know i am ordering the 345hp GT40 crate motor. well last night i almost wasn't goin to order it. my parents wanted me to sell my 94 and they were goin to me a newer one. thy wanted me to get 99-02 GT or 96-98 cobra. (well that's what i suggested) but i talked my parents into letting me buy the motor. so tonight i should be ordering it (that's if my parents don't change there minds. lol) this is what i will be ordering

345hp GT40 Crate Motor
MAC Long Tube Headers 1 5/8
BBK Off Road X Pipe
King Cobra Clutch
9mm Plug Wires

so if i order it 2nite, i hope to have the car back in my hands in 2 weeks. then 'm goin to sell my heads and get a dyno tune and chip, and gettin some MAC flowpaths.

Order it fast before they change thier mind :D . You did good sticking with our year the 99 & up are not that fast. I drove a 2000 vert and was not very impressed at all. Also, to mod those cars its very $$$ their prices jump up at least $50-$100 more than what we pay ans their intakes cost about 1500  . Where are you ordering the engine from?

is the GT-40 a 302 base motor? If so why not stick your twisted wedge heads on it? Or is it a 351? My parents are the same way, but its just usually a no you cant get it until I bug them enough :D

it is still a hypertectic piston POS engine.

Why not rip out the one you got and re-ring it? THAT would be a SMART thing to do.

GT40 is about 290rwhp typically.

Your setup is just so much more stout.

I WOULD so much rather you order a FORD RACING 347 SHORTBLOCK and throw on your heads, cam and intake to it.

The GT40 is CRAP next to the 347, even tho both sport hypertectic crapola pistons.

PS: if you want to sell your old shortblock, ill be glad to buy it.

But honestly, you have a so much better engine than a GT40 POS.

Pete :nice:

Were they going to BUY you a newer car, or just help you get one (as in cosign for the loan or help with the payments)? Because if they were going to just go out and buy you a 99-02 GT or a 96-98 Cobra, I would have been very tempted to go that route. You could have gotten a 99+ GT, thrown a Kenne Bell on it, and say hello to 400-450hp!!

P.S. I'd go with a SPEC Stage II clutch. :)

Exactly. If I my engine went tomorrow and the funds were available (like he apparently has) you better damn well believe a 331 or 347 is going into the engine bay, not a 302!! For the price of the GT40 crate motor you could get a nice stroker setup and make way more power in the end. If he got a stroker shortblock and ported those Trick Flow heads, he'd have a street beast.

Ok, lets think about this, 5literstang.

-Ford Racing GT-40 345hp longblock - $3195.99 from Jegs
-DSS 306 twisted wedge shortblock w/ FORGED pistons, its also balanced - $2019.95....and I think this price includes the main support.

Thats a $1176.04 difference in price. You already have better heads and cam than the ones that come on the GT-40 engine, and everything else too. With the money saved you can pay somebody to do the work for you and still have money left over.

I forgot to even look at the 331 shortblocks. They're only $2519.95. So there you go. now you know what you should get.

yea i wanted to just get another short block, i'll try my parents to talk me into that but i know they will say no cuz there paying for this. i usally pay for everything (payments, insurance, mods) but my motor went on such short notice that they told me that they would buy me a new motor and told me to sell my other stuff. since my motor has blowby, does that effect my heads? cuz they would be nice just to buy a shortblock and use my existing mods. but i really don't want to agrue with them cuz i don't want them to say "i'm not buying u anything now!" but when i have a few thousand miles on the car i'll throw an S-Trim on and all will be good. lol

I doubt they will argue with buying a motor that cost less than what they were originally gonna buy. They're saving money and YOU'RE getting more for their money...so everybody's happy. :D :p

Or did they want you to sell your motor so you could pay them back? If thats the case, then just get your current motor re-ringed and be done with it.

the thing is that were gettin the motor put in for like nothing, and if they have to redo the whole motor that it's goin to cost me. i plan on selling my heads, cam ,headers, h pipe, and if anyone wants the block i'll sell it cheap, basically make me an offer on it.

blowby does NOT affect heads.

And if you want to throw on boost later, the GT40 has 9.0 compression, which is good.

BUT MAN, YOUR THROWING MONEY IN THE RIVER!

They give you CRAP pistons, basically all you get a STOCK SHORTBLOCK! GT40 heads and B cam!

Holy mother of god child, like we suggested, dont throw this money away.

I'd much rather order a 8.5:1 compression FORGED shortblock from DSS and call it a day. Buy a complete gasket set, and slap on your heads, cam and intake.

ITS NOT HARD to figure out where the best money will be spent.

Dont only look at HP as a factor. Because it is not, look at the longrun, which engine has a better survival rate? Forged bottom end or HYPERCRAP bottom end?

ASK ME HOW I KNOW!

I blew 2 hyper bottom ends on my turbo car, and now im building a DART/BILLET 331 engine for her! F-that stock crap BS!

Just trying to help man!

ANd I will buy the shortblock from you, want $200 for it? :nice: I will pick it up!

Why are you selling all your good stuff???????? Shoot, if I had the money I'd buy your motor and just re-ring it.

So, getting a new motor isn't gonna cost you anything to have it installed? If thats the case then get the 331 shortblock and use your heads and cam.

now i don't know what to do! i'm goin to talk to my mom in a bit about it, then i'm goin to call up the palce that's doin it and see what they say. but if i get the DSS 306 short block that costs $2,019, will that have everything i need? will my heads need any kind of work since the motor has blowby? i would like to keep the Trick Flow setup cuz it's a sick setup, so please help me! i'm goin order everything tonight. my dad will be happy on saving money too. thanks

EVERYTHING YOU HAVE will BOLT right up.

All you have to do is swap timing chain cover/water pump, drop the cam in, and bolt on your heads and intake.

You just have to invest in $100 for the COMPLETE FELPRO gasket set.

KEEP your trickflow stuff, it definantly outperforms a GT40 setup.

Like I said, your heads dont need any work, since you said you have BLOW BY. Now if you had START UP blue smoke, and only on startup, then I would re-doing valve seats.

How many miles on teh heads? I heard of some TRICKFLOWS that have some oil problems... but like anything mass produces, **** happens.

With a 306, expect an extra 20hp, but lets not only aim at HP.

Aim at what your getting.
