got some seats out of a 96 stang

I used the "guts" from the stock 1990 seats and put them in the 03 seats and then made a way to secure the seat-back carpet on similar to the 1990's.

Only downside is the stupid sn95 latches you can see. If you want to do it, and do it this way then i can make up some step by step directions with some pics i took....

It is completely reversible too in regards to the stock fox seats so you may try it out if you like

can you make a write-up sometime for the back seats with pics maybe??? just anytime you're not busy and have some time to throw a nice one together for me?

I'd looooove to have seats like my mom's leather 03GT seats but i'm worried it'll look strange if i only did the fronts.

Thanks :D :nice:

This is going to sound like an odd question, but it refers to the seat backs on these newer seats.

has anyone noticed if the backrest of the seat is thinner than a fox seat? i put my interior back in the other day after my roll bar install, and im 6'2" so i might need a seat with a thinner back to it. i fit ok, but i wish i could go back another 1/2"

i think they may be thicker..in the middle acutally.

....and if you are tall they sit up about 1" higher so i wouldnt reccomend them.

I got them because a guy on here was too tall for them but im like 6' so i must slouch a little lol.

I know the seats do sit up higher, so if you are 6'2" you probably would not like the way they sit. To me the seats are a bit thicker than the GT seats I had before.

lOOKS LIKE THERE IS NOT MUCH LEG ROOM IN THE BACK. I WOULD LIKE TO USE THOSE TYPES OF SEATS BUT I HAVE TWO BOYS AND WON'T WORK.

How old are your guys? My 6 yr old twins fit just fine, of course I don't have the seat all the way back, maybe 2/3 back. My 16 yr old is a tight fit, but if the passenger seat is all the way up, he fits fine.

Your seat backs look even better than mine! I need to do some work to make the fold down latch fit a bit tighter since it still rattles a bit on rough roads. I'm assuming you put some kind of filler in between and covered it with the carpet? Did you do anything on securely mounting the seat bottoms? I still haven't finished mine! :(

what i did was i basically just took the stock seats......what i mean by stock seats for the purpose of instruction is the Fox seats.....
Anyway i swapped the "guts" of the seats so that it would be new leather on the stock frames.

Ok here they are....new on left...stock on right. I dont quite remember how to remove them but i think you take out the little screws first...you see the little holes towards the bottom in the carpet....Then you flip the carpet up exposing all the mounting bolts to the seat-back frame in the car....Leave that in the car! Just take these seat-backs off. There are those spring-loaded flaps before anything if i remember correctly....but i forget...i remember its pretty easy though.

Heres most of the hand tools:
pliers
razor knife
sharpie
scissors
screwdrivers
and the staple gun
....now there may be more , like a power drill...

PICT0761.jpg

Start with the stock seats....the fabric wraps around the sides...pull it off of the frame. its held by these plastic rivet things. You can see the carpet > plastic frame > seat foam > and then the fabric.
PICT0762.jpg

Now youll have the stock seat in 2 peices...first is the plastic frame + carpet (stapled on) and then the foam and fabric with all the rivets in it
PICT0763.jpg

Pull the carpet off the plastic frame
PICT0764.jpg

Heres the stock seat in a bunch of peices (3)...frame...carpet...and fabric+foam.
PICT0765.jpg

NEXT>>>

Now take apart the new seat...on my 03s there was this "folded over channel" that made a tight connection...i guess you'll see what i mean when you get here lol. THis is the bottom of the new seat in the pic
PICT0766.jpg

And a bull ring under the flaps...inside which connects the small peices of leather attached to the sides....which takes some pliers...
PICT0767.jpg

Also unscrew and take off the latch bezel on the new seat...
Now you should be able to slide the new seat frame outta the new seat...

PICT0768.jpg

OK TRY AND STAY WITH ME lol....
This is the STOCK seat frame....see the holes in the side?...I have drilled new ones on the back surface

PICT0769.jpg

now i cut out strips of some old plastic i had lying around...it was actually part of an old toolbox tray bottom....and drilled holes mimicking the ones I had just drilled in the seat frame..
see how the strips appear to fit over the other holes on the edge of the frame they are sitting on?

PICT0770.jpg

Now i put some rivets from the stock seat fabric in them..
these will hold the stock seat-back carpet to the back of the new seats similar to how the stock ones did.....Since i am too poor to have the stock carpet resewn into the new leather backs (the new seats appear to have a charcoal felt carpet that doesnt match
PICT0771.jpg

PICT0772.jpg

OOOK....now your gonna slide the STOCK plastic frame into the NEW seat, basically replacing the NEW frame with the stock one. Dont worry about the new holes you put in it yet..or the plastic strips with the rivets....
Cut out the latch area in the NEW seats felt carpet back part...

PICT0773.jpg

Here you see the TOP/BACK of the new seat with the new frame and the TOP/INSIDE of the stock carpeting...I am stapling it and will fold it down over the rest of the seat...like attaching it from the inside....
PICT0774.jpg

Now those plastic peices with rivets will go through the rest of the holes in the stock carpet and fold over and go into the new holes you have drilled in the seat frame...You may have to find them and cut slits in the New felt so they go trough..
This attaches the sides of the stock "carpet from the inside" to the new seat

PICT0775.jpg

Now see how the carpet is attached to the leather?...that orange plastic strip is running underneath and the carpet is wrapped around it and held on..
Also here you see the stock latch bezel....The bummer is...the NEW seats have the latch at the top...fox's are on the back :( ...
Soo i used both bezels....Here i have sliced it in half....I put it in a vise and used the rezor and a metal ruler..

PICT0777.jpg

So what i did with that was put it on and screwed it into the top of the stock frame to cover the hole and used the stock bezel to ....well....work just like stock.

the slight curvature that is left on the new bezel kinda goes inbetween the leather and carpet
SOME HEADRESTS WOULD LOOK GREAT TO COVER THESE

Enjoy....i know much seems quite vague but you can always ask about any questions....Youll see once you get actually doing it...Looks difficult but isnt.

Very good idea Adam on mounting the carpet! I'll have to look into modifying my rear seats like that when I work on it again this summer.

Thanks for putting this write up together. I said I was going to do one, but have never had the time to put it together. But here is some info on mounting the seats in the car and how it looks:

http://www.corral.net/forums/showthread.php?t=537531

And as for the headrests, I pulled my 2002 headrests out of the front seats and put them on the rear seats to cover the plastic trim. Looks a lot better. And then I replaced the front headrests with Halo ones from an Escort GT.

I'll have to get a new pic of the rears and post it later.

the halos look really good!. I just wanted to it to be just like stock when the seats folded down, even though its not as clean as I'd like (you can still see some of the sides of the 03s, I did it this way because it is completely reversible and doesnt really hurt any of the stock Fox parts...just the 03 seat-back felt.

you getting rid of your seats Justin?

haha prolly not.

if i decide to put 94+ seats in mine, i'll most likely keep the stockers incase i decide to go back.

i'm sure you'd love those to finish off your interior huh?? :p

if i do decide to get rid of them, i'll keep you in mind. i'll also keep a lookout for a nice set around OH. :nice:

Looks awesome!!! How reversible is the entire process though?? I don't really want to take parts from my black tweed fox seats. I'd prefer to leave them alone.

Guess i'll need to steal some parts from junkyard seats and maybe get some new carpeting??

i did it that way because its completely reversible. its not completely reversible to save the 94+ seat though...there will just be a hole in the back of it, but in a 94+ that would be in the trunk.

If you can you'll need extra rear seat "guts" and the carpet attached to it...youre basically only using the new 94+ padding and leather only

But like i said its easily reversable by just stapling the fox carpet back to the fox seatback and then putting the fox padding back on with those little plastic rivet things

Well i'm not so much concerned with the 94+ seat. Not like i'll ever put it back into an Sn95 again.

I'm more concerned with preserving my mint Black clotch fox seats. I don't really want to pirate them for parts as i might want to sell them or save them for 20 years from now

I may have to find a set of j/y seats to rob the frames out of. It will still leave me the carpeting issue, but maybe i can buy some carpet that matches and make something.

Or i could dye the dark charcoal carpet black. Not like i plan on folding the seats down at all, but i'd like it to all match except for the obvious charcoal seating surfaces.

That was me. Everytime I see pictures of Adam's car, I get more pissed off. Those seats look perfect in there.

My knees hit the steering wheel getting in and out, and my head rubbed on the ceiling. I'm somewhere between 6' and 6'-1" and I don't know how everyone else deals with it. My advice would be try to find someone that has swapped the seats and sit in their car before you spend the money on the seats.

Is it just more pronounced in the fox bodies??

I have those seats stock in my '03 GT, so i'm used to sitting in them. I'm 6'1" and fit comfortable, but they are also in the car they were designed for. Is it just because of the Fox's smaller interior dimensions?

Luckily i do have tilt wheel on my '88, and a sunroof for more headroom
