Gotta move back to 17s. What style wheel

race season is coming again, i want to get some 555r's to run around the street with and to have better 60' times when i race. it costs me $40 more to just get entirely new rims/tires in 17s over just getting 2 rear tires/necessary parts for my 18's now.

i have had saleen's on 3 cars now. i really like them, but if i go back to a 17".. im at a loss. i am close to just settling for 03 cobra wheels. what do you guys think?

i also contemplated fr500's before. here is a pic of the car, i'm having a hard time deciding. budget isint there for any true forged wheels, yet. looking at the standard am wheel variety right now.

For the cost of me running a 555r in 18s I will just get all new stuff. It's just way more cost effective in the end for what I get.

Thanks. I love the saleens but for a drag racing setup I think 17s will be better suited. Plus tires are literally half the cost.

Those 04 cobra wheels r sharp but I prefer how 17's look on a foxbody.

+1 To this. I was going to put 555's on my Cobra, after pricing them out I found I could buy a whole new set of 17's for about the same or a little more.

i'm in the same situation, tires for 18's are just killing me I'm moving back down to 17's plus I'm tired of the hard ride especially on my car. 03 cobras would def look nice Saleen SC's would also look good on your car.

Who are you guys are having price your tires? My god. OP... your saying for the price of two Nitto 555's in 18inch for the rear of your Mustang is almost equal in price to four new 17 inch rims and four 17 inch Nitto 555's?

Where are you getting these crazy 18 tire prices from? Do you shop local and see how much a set of tires are mounted and balanced? I'm looking at wholesale pricing as we speak. There is about 13 price difference per 17 to 18 inch tire(Depending on how you compare size). I was pricing 265/35-18.

He didnt mention that was with sale of his current wheel/tire combo. So total outlay being around $700 he could have all new.

trust me. i know how to price stuff and save some $$.

as i said, its not cost efficient to buy any kind of sticky tires for 18s. these tires aren't made to last long, they are made to get traction. go do burnouts on, ect.

its 235 per tire best price online. plus either tax and 15 dollars mount/balance, or 235 shipped and i get raped on mount/balance. either way, it averages out to about 525 for 2 tires. plus i need to make some spacers to accomodate the 285/35/18.

or i sell my wheels/tires and it costs me about 550 out of pocket for all new stuff. thats my dilema. then for any future purchase of tires, they are nearly half the price.

thanks for your input, i think i am going to get the 03 cobra stuff.

I have to entirely disagree with you on your tire knowledge. Ive been mounting and selling tires for years. A 'sticky' tire in general is not designed for mileage. Regardless if that is a 17 or 18 inch tire. As far as pricing goes. You keep mentioning 'online'. Have you check local pricing? You might be surprised. And as far as spacers go. That's cake. I have no idea about what your setup is, but a 285/3518 Nitto 555 fits on a 18x10 with fox axles and 22mm offset fits with out modification. We just did an install on a customers car. No fender roll and he even had frpp 'B' springs. However, if you ran say a BF gooodrich tire then you may have issues. Nitto tends to be narrower then most other companies. Just my .02

dude, 555r's are crappy once you've owned some MT drag radials, im not yanking your camshaft its night and day.

as far as 17's go i like the fr500 and anniversary wheel. but im sure whatever you pick it will look good

did i say i expected alot of mileage out of these? i dont understand where you get the idea to question what i've researched either.

i tried getting remotely competitive pricing from the local shops. free shipping, free mount and balance and no tax DESTROY any prayer of them beating the "online" pricing.

Gotta move back to 17s. What style wheel
