I'm doing the front disc conversion on my 67 coupe and was wondering if the proportioning valves can go bad? How reliable is it to get one off of a salvaged granada?

I've never heard of a proportioning valve go bad... but since life ain't perfect I suppose its possible.

You might want to consider getting an adjustable proportioning valve from Wilwood. A little more money, but the adjustability is nice to have.

related ?

I have a question along the same lines. Is the proportioning valve necessary? I have the front brakes plumbed with a tee and the rear through an adjustable valve. I have a really soft brake pedal now that only comes up when pumped. I've bled the system on 3 seperate occasions and adjusted the rear drums (affects pedal feel) but it hasn't helped. I'm wondering if the factory valve keeps a given amout of pressure on the rear drums to keep the pedal feel up

Yes you need a correct proportioning valve and the extra cost of an adjustable one is SOOOO worth the money. With drum/drum or disk/disk the system equals itself as all the wheels have the same kind of system. With disk/drum it takes a different amount of pressure to make the disks work and for the drums to work. so you use it to balance out the system. I have been telling people since I did mine that an adjustable one lets you dial in your setup and takes away all the variables of trying to get the right one for your engine/year/brake/tire setup.

So going with an adjustable proportioning valve like this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33564&item=7945134458&rd=1 is the way to go, eh? If so I'll just get one of them instead of the Granada valve.

Yeah, that looks about like the wilwood one I have. The price is about what I got it for. Check summitt and jegs. Heres my setup(i have a bigger blowup if you need it):
