GT Headlights...oncoming traffic.

Hey guys,

When I am driving at night, I have all my lights on...my 2 ends and my 2 fogs. I don't have my brights on. Sometimes on coming traffic gives me the brights because they think I have my brights on, when I really don't. So I give the brights back Does this happen to anyone with the GT's?????

That probably happens to 90% of GT owners on regular basis (based on the number of posts I've seen on various forums). I've come to the conclusion that, yes, most people flash their lights because they think you have your brights on, but it's also because of the amount of light you're shining in their faces. They don't care if you call them fog lights, driving lights, landing lights or Christmas lights; all they know is it's too much light. Plus you have to factor in the fact that GT fogs aren't like normal fogs, which are typically mounted low in the front fascia. Being that GT fogs are high mounted, they're putting out extra light at level that one doesn't want, nor expect to see extra light, unless you have your brights on.

Most Mustang owners will claim that they enjoy the extra light put out by the fogs (because the real reason is a bit shallow - see below), but what I don't get, is that even after acknowledging that their fogs produce extra light, most continue to be belligerent about the fact that the extra light is bugging oncoming traffic. And if they're simply using them for extra light, why not use them as one would use their brights and turn them off for oncoming traffic?

The fact is, 95% of people who run their fog lights, even when there's NO FOG, don't do it for the extra light, but simply because they feel that their fogs "look cool". I'm sorry, but I just can't imagine putting unneeded light in oncoming drivers eyes because my fog lights "look cool."

Think about converting those fogs to Amber (yellow)

This is good and makes them true "fog lights"
White light only reflects off the fog but the colored will cut thru it.

Fogs

I went to yellow fog bulbs. Hoen Endurance (stock wattage) bulbs and they look great, especially with my 6000K HID headlights. The yellow bulbs work great in the fog.

I completely agree with you. I use my fogs when driving down country roads. There are a lot of deer in my area and the fogs light the ditches up nicely. The last thing I need to do is slam into a deer. When traffic comes my way I click them off.

Many people think that it is their right to "get back" at the other driver. Others think that they are doing the other person a favor by letting them know their brights are on. Funny how people act when they are in their car and "annonymous".

I use my fogs because it does add more light, and because it does look cool.

I don't think it's so much that it's hurting other drivers eyes, but that the position of them is not where fog lights normally are, so they just think they're some kind of brights. I've never been blinded by a GT.

I did notice, however, that since I put my center fog light grill in, I've never been flashed.

I've had this car for almost 3 years now and I never run my fogs anymore. I got sick and tired of being flashed by every other car. I would get into a flash war everytime I drove the car.

I put some GTS smoked fog light covers on them and that dimmed them down enough that I NEVER got flashed again. I took them off though because I didn't like how they looked in the daylight.

That alone proves that people are not just flashing because they see the 4 lights and think you have your brights on. They ARE a tad too bright based on the GT's I've met at night. Brighter than your average car with fog lights on anyway. I don't use them anymore at all.

i get flashed periodically, and i use my fogs because i enjoy the extra light i get. with my old car i had barely any light output because the header panel was cracked so the lights were aiming to the sky, and they were all fogged up. when i got this car and noticed how much more light i get with the fogs on, i see no reason not to drive with them on.

i don't see anything wrong with using the fogs that came with the GTs. i hate the ricer HID 6k-20k or whatever they are bulbs that people get off of ebay and find them much more annoying. and i also hate the light flicker you see on a majority of newer GM vehicles.

and what i don't get is, people flash us thinking its our brites, but brites will cut out the fogs if they had any common sense.

Yes and no. With the lights putting out less light, it's more obvious that they are fog or driving lights. With them being the same brightness as the headlights, idiots that know nothing about cars assume that they're brights.

yeah i guess your right, has anyone been pulled over for running the fogs? from a cop who doesn't realize the fogs will go out when brights are on.

in my roush it has 2 lower fog lights that i use, never get flashed. i did switch to the top fog lights once and immediately got flashed, haven't used them since.

White bulbs are "driving lights" and yellow bulbs are "fog lights".

I run my driving lights if the street/highway is not well-lit, and I can't recall the last time I was flashed...so it rarely happens to me.

If I want/need more light to see better, I will turn them on. If they want to flash me, fine..I'll be past them in 2 seconds anyway.

The driving lights don't throw as much light as the primary lights anyway...they just fill the front of the car with a little more light.

Im not going to lie. If i have my brights on and someone flashes me ill be sure to turn them off - Oops my mistake! But tbh im not going to keep my fog lights off because some scrooge wants to bitch. People are always bitching. Never get enough of it. The fog lights are not that bright that it burns the retinas nor have i ever been blinding driving past a GT Mustang enough to make me care. Like Sparty said. Its 2 seconds. Bare with it. Cant take it? Get off the road.

I personally have never been blinded by a GT and even if I did I wouldn't flash them even if they had their brights on. i give them a thumbs a up for having an awesome ride similiar to one I will hopefully own in the near future. I do occasionally flash or honk at a V6 that has a GT emblem and things of that nature but that's just a pet peeve of mine.

A lot of older people flash back to when most every car had the brights in the same location in the grill. 4 eyes = Brights. I admit that I got flashed while on a wooded country road ripe with venison waiting to be tenderized by an unwary Mustang. I was p.o. ed because that was a hazard ( 2 cars going 35 mph at each other) . I quickly "flashed-back" and the driving/fog/adverse weather lights cut out. Shouldn't have brighted the other guy, in retrospect.
