I have a chance to get a set of GT40 heads off I think explorer engines for 300 dollars. Now my question is after getting the springs replaced, buying 1.6 rockers etc and possibly getting them ported. Is it worth the effort? I have a stock engine plan to upgrade the intake also.

But based on the price vs 1,500 for Trick Flow for example.

Would the GT40 be worth the time and effort. Im very bored with the performance of my car anymore haha as we all get. Or maybe just buy a used supercharger.

They are worth a try IMO. I have a set as well. We were going to swap them onto my wife's 84 convertible that we also swapped a Lincoln Mark VII 5.0 into, mass air converted, installed an Explorer intake and headers. We never did get around to it, but we still have the heads with new springs installed. We plan on swapping them into her "new" 87 GT convertible when we get the opportunity. From what I've researched, they're good for a small boost without porting. You're not going to break any land speed records without changing everything, but I imagine you would notice a difference. Better breathing heads are always a pretty good investment....

No.

Save your money and buy a better cylinder head. If you had the heads already or got them for 50$ it would be worth it.

Keep an eye on Craigslist for a decent used set

Even 300 I think is a bit high for those.

I've seen the GT40's for sale locally for $150-200. GT40P's have gotten so common I'm using a set as a doorstop. I couldn't sell them for $100 when I tried

I agree with the others... $300 is too much. I can get a pair out of the local u-pull-it for $75 and the entire engine for $250.
