GT40P Heads

I have a 1969 Mustang with a stock 302-2v motor. I also have a pair of used GT40P head with headers that I would like to use. Does anyone know if I can use my stock head bolts? Or, will I have to buy the Ford# M-6065-D289 bolts for $100+ bucks?

You can use your old head bolts, allthough for peace of mind a new set can't hurt, as the old ones have 30+ years of stress on em.

Get some ARP Head studs. They are in that $100 range and hold better than bolts.

GT40P heads have different sparkplug location. You better check to make sure yoru exhaust bolts up correctly.

I know headers are a PITA. If I do it again I will not use these heads. The decent price does not offset the extra cost for headers that fit.

MAC makes the GT40P headers

Yep, the MAC headers fit, no clearance issues to speak of, allthough I did have to use 90degree boots on the plug wires to clear. If your planning on buying headers anyways its no extra cost.
I don't know if these "special" headers will fit a "normal" set of heads or not.

Hipo "k" mainifolds fit the heads and clear the plugs also, for those looking for a little sleeper look

Has anyone tried the 'P' heads with standard late 60s 289 / 302 exhaust manifolds, for plug clearance?

I got a great deal on a set of these heads, and am thinking of putting them on my 68 Cougar. Headers are a PITA to me as well, unless they are top-notch. I'm not impressed by the quality of MAC headers long-term. The only other specific 'P' headers for early cars I'm aware of are the set from Ford Powertrain App. for $399. OUCH.
