i have a stock 94 5.0 with a auto. i want to make more power on a budget so i was wondering if the gt40p heads are worth it due to you have to buy the p headers? will the p headers work on a normal head or will i have clearence issues? i am just doing this for now my plan is in a yr or so to get the trickflow 350 pack. or is there a better budget head? bascially just building a budget performer for now.

I would wait, not saying anything is wrong with the -40p heads, but you get into the realm of spending the cash twice.

I looked into getting them, but self control kicked in and I got what I really wanted (Eddy's). Waited longer, and they're still sitting in the garage, but I think it was the wiser choice.

to each their own, good luck

If you are planning on changing your combo down the road then don't bother with P's, but otherwise using P's can give you a pretty cheap stout combo. P heads, a Trick Flow stage 1 cam, and any good intake can give some pretty fun results. If you do that combo paired with 4.10s and some drag radials you are going to have a combo that will flirt with high 12 second timeslips for a very good price. Rio95 pulled 13.0s with that very combo.

you dont really need p specific headers, im using BBK unequal headers on a set of P heads... only thing is you need to use 90 degree boots on the spark plug wires and on the #7 plug you'll need to make a custom spark plug socket. Theres not much space between the header tubes and the spark plug, but theres enough space if you cut a slit in an old plug socket so you can kinda slip it over the top of the ceramic on the plug and then slide it over in place.

As someone who started with a bone stock auto like you, I strongly recommend that you start with a 3.73 ring & pinion swap and add a shift kit (I have the Transgo HD2). You won't get more power but you'll make the most efficient use of the power that you do have, and your car will feel like a totally different animal.
With that foundation laid down, you can then gradually add mods that'll boost power. That said, there are some HP-increasing mods that you can do for next to nothing:
