Gauge ??'s

So I'm looking into getting a boost gauge and oil pressure guage from Autometer. I've done a search on mech vs electrical, and had a question. If you run a mechanical gauge, on autometer's website they say it does not require a power source, so does this mean that they don't light up? (Like the cobalts and the numbers lighting blue) I would think it would require a power source for them to do this. Also, with mechanical, do you have to drill to route the line, or will it fit through that area near the brake pedal with the rubber piece in the middle.
Thanks,

you do need a power source, for the gauge itself to work. And the light power is also seperated. but i hooked up all 3 of my gauges ground together, and the power together. just the sending wire had its own source.

As stated, mech gauges only need power and ground for the light itself.

Good luck.
what the only gauge that had its own light was the air/fuel, the oil and water temp had its own light to connect to a pwer source. and ground to.

edit- ok i understand now my mistake. i got electric ones.
