guys, what is the purpose of the dogbone?

i know alot of people take this off, but what is the purpose? i would like to remove it, but not if i need it.

also i never had a car with a dogbone, can somone post a quick pick to make sure i remove the right thing. thanks

It's a harmonic dampner to deaden drivetrain vibrations. Some people get away with removing this 8lb weight, others start getting resonance at 65-75mph, which can sometimes be cured with an aluminum driveshaft.

It's the funky dog-bone shaped piece of metal bolted to the under side of the pumpkin.

To add to that....it's made to work with stock gearing only and once you perform a gear swap, it serves no real purpose (unless you want to count the additional few pounds it gives adds to the rear end for traction purposes). Otherwise, it's scrap metal

I didn't know that once you swapped gears it could be ditched..good info I may have to start forming a crush on you also if Tommy will share

mine didnt wanna come off with hand tools, actually it wouldnt come off...the SOB even strained my 400ft/lb impact gun to get it off... but mine was also fairly rusted...

thanks everyone. i slithered under my car eairler today to take it off.

car was in the garage and i squeezed under didnt jack it or anything.

my car isnt droped yet so i can fit anyway i took the dog bone off with a socket wrench. not too much space the way i did it, but its no problem with a socket wrench.

the bolts are on a bit tight, but they came off. havent driven it yet, but if you guys say its cool, then its cool.

I was under the impression that when you remove the dog-bone you had to get 2 new shorter bolts to replace the ones you took out. Is this correct?

just make sure you re-attach the upper stamped steel brkt, as it serves as the contact point for the rear pinion snubber
