The first question is how does this set up sound:
AFR 165 legal kind
Comp cam xe270hr (50 state legal i think)
Edlebrock RPM 2 intake
70 mm throttle body
24# injectors

If this sounds like it will work well then next question is I need to come up with a list of all supporting items I will need to make this work. For example, I could buy the cam from summit for 250 bucks, comp cam has a kit that comes with springs and various other items, but its 900 bucks. Do you know of any other kits what have what i need but are much cheaper? Will i need new push rods? What rockers should i get (brand, size, type) ect... Anything you can think of would help. Trying to comile a list so I can have all the funds set aside before i just start buying things.

Also my plans in the next 2 years will be to get afr 185's and a stroker, but i though the 185's would be to big for my application until then.

Thanks

When you increase air with larger heads-cam-intake, you also need to incresae fuel.

Here's a list of what you should upgrade (hope I don't forget anything):
Heads & gaskets
Head bolts
Cam
Lifters
Pushrods
Rockers
Timing Chain (w/Gears)
Timing Cover gasket
Water Pump & gasket
Intake & gaskets
Thermostat & gasket
Throttle Body
MAF sensor
Air filter
Injectors
Fuel pressure gauge for shrader valve
Adjustible Fuel Pressure Regulator
Larger fuel pump

I suggest buying the Trick Flow Track Heat kit.
It's the same as the street kit, but comes with their track intake, which is better above 4500rpm and doesn't choke a stroker either.
Buying the RPMII shows you are planning ahead for the stroker, but the AFR165's aren't as optimal for the stroker.
I think the TF kit is the better buy for now and future upgrades.
If you have gears (3.73 or numerically higher) I say going a bit larger isn't going to hurt your driveability much.

Here is what i was thinking as far as the 165's go. If i put on then 185's i would either have to pay someone to do it to notch the pistons, or buy new pistons. Either route i go i could see it easliy costing 500+ dollars. If i put the 165's on now and move to 185's at the same time as the stroker, i will have to replace the pistons anyway. I can then always sell the 165's for about half of what i paid for them. After all said and done i would just about break even in total cost, plus i wouldnt have oversized heads on an application that doesnt use them and i wont have to tear apart the bottom end more then once.

As far as smaller parts like pushrods, lifters, rocker arms, springs, ect do you know of any good kits that dont put a hurting on your wallet. I like mentioned before, there is a nice kit from comp cams but its 900, which is alot of money for some lifters and springs.

Oh and i run 3.73's not sure if its in my sig.

What kind of MAF do you have? Make sure you have a good meter matched to the injectors.

The list posted above pretty much covers it. Also make sure you have a good adjustable fuel pressure regulator. I had AFR 165's on my car too and I ran FRPP blue 1.6 pedestal rockers on mine. They worked just fine. Just make sure you don't overtighten and crack the little pedestals that they bolt on.

Also make sure you have some antiseeze for the header bolts. You don't want to mess up any of the threads in those aluminum heads. I also recommend spending money on a GOOD header gasket like the Earl's graphite refillable gaskets. And make sure you have a good set of headers. The exhaust ports of those AFR's will definitely put them to use. I also used Stage 8 header bolts for insurance.

Well, it looks like everyone is pointing me towards the trickflow track heat kit. I have to say that what you get for the price is actually very nice, and since I am a college student money is not exaclty plentiful. First question I have is how is the P-V clearance for those heads. I see that the value size is 2.02 which I think is the same as the Afr's 185. I cant remember but I thought i read that the value placment is different allowing for more clearance. Anyone here have to notch their stock pistons to get these to work? The second question is it says peak power is 360 hp and 350 tq. Now is this what I could reach by adding the kit or is this the total power the kit can support? Also is this to the flywheel or rear wheel? I could be wrong but I think a 331 stroker would produce more then 350 rwhp so then this kit wouldnt be taking full advantage of the stroker. Could anyone/everyone running this kit post what kinda power they were at after the kit or what kind of power they are making after this kit and a stroker?

I forgot to add, is this kit emissions legal? Poking around on trickflows site and i dont see anything, since i live in MD emissions is a must or atleast until the car is 25 years old.

im pretty sure that the track heat kit is emissions legal, i know the cam is legal, as long as the car is runng good and has cats on it it should pass emissions.

also you could just port the trick flow heads and put them onto the stroker that you build.

actually i conacted trick flow and they said that the cam is not 50 state legal but the rest of the package is. From what i gathered it seems like this is going to be one of those border line deals. I am not so sure that i want to take that kinda chance given the amount of work and money it would take to replace it. One thing i was wondering about though. I think i read somewhere on here that a guy took his stang to emissions and the guy wouldnt even run it until he say proof that the cam is 50 state legal. Can they actually do this, I mean the cam does sound pretty good and its easy to tell is not after market. So could someone make you prove its 50 state legal before they run it?

The cam and heads are fine, but I recommend an RPM instead of the RPM II.

Are you sure, how do you know? I just want to be very sure before i spend my money and time on this project. You know where i can actually get the RPM, i dont really see it anymore. Just the preformer and the rpm 2. Would you still recommend this if i plan to go stroker in a couple years?

Yes. They AFRs and RPM flow nearly the same. I'd get the 2 if you were going with 185s. The powerband on the RPM is rated up to 6500rpm. The 165s on AFRs site say 6000, but they'll go to 6500 without a problem. If I'm correct the powerband on the XE270HR cam spreads to 6000. With that being said the RPM II is meant to reach up to 7000rpm. It's too large. The Performer is too small, and the RPM is a perfect match. I'm sure there are others that will read this and reply.

Heads are a great choice and the cam is the same one I run with scorpion 1.6RR's...you will be very very pleased with the two together. Now for the intake I would be inclined to go with the RPM available from Summit or any local performance shop, just ask and they'll find it for ya. The RPM II is a touch big, though some may disagree, I run a typhoon (RPM copy) and it's more than adequate for my combo. I hear alot of people pushing the trickflow kit, and I'm sure it's a fine setup, but I like the parts I chose ,should note I run RPM 1.9/1.6 heads with a touch of exhaust work..they should flow aprox or a touch more than the box stock 165's and I will tell you the car is just a joy to drive. The idle is NICE, not to grumpy not to mild, and works well with the puter.

Thanks for input guys, i will have to do some searching around. I know the trickflow heads are the only head with 2.02 valves and no P - V clearance issues, so it will either be 165's or wedge heads. The cam is the only thing I need to figure out. The cam i get will determine which way i go. If the trickflow cam works then i would prob just get the kti, if the comp cam is what i get then i will just make my own setup. Is this the kit with the xe270 cam i want CCA-K35-324-8. I found it on summitracing.com. Should be everything i need in that kit for 6-7 hundred bucks. Few hundred dollars cheaper then on comp cams site.

Could you post some information about your setup? Such as what parts you are running. Which kits you used ect.. Since this is my first time building a combo I am not too sure about making everything line up an fit. Things like what length push rods would i need.....
