i have a 94 vert that im re-doing the suspension on my question is does h&r make a sport spring for 94-95 converts? how much will it lower it? and how do they ride? i have mismatched springs right now thats why im rdoing them and i want to do it right. how much lower are the super sports compared to the sports?

Hey Juiced,

I just went thru a suspension buildup.
The spring question was something that took me along time to answer. I was dead set on H&R, and the only ones that they list for the Verts are the "RACE".
Here are the spec's on the H&R line for our cars.
H&R Race:
Front 750-850 lb/in 1.50 inch drop
Rear 260-280 lb/in 1.50 inch drop

I have talked to owners of convertables that have the H&R sport and supersports and did not get a common answer. Even thought the sport and supersport are listed for the Coupes, they will fit on a Convertible. They do not have an even drop.
H&R Sport:
Front 490-575 lb/in 1.60 inch drop
Rear 250-285 lb/in 1.50 inch drop
H&R Super Sport
Front 700-760 lb/in 1.75 inch drop
Rear 275-300 lb/in 1.60 inch drop

Here is where I was worried. I like the level drop of the Race spring but did not like the idea of having 750-850 lb/in rated springs on a car that is not a race car... (log truck ride quality) The drops on the Sport and SuperSports springs are not that drastic of a difference from front to rear, but that is what the drop would be on the COUPES not the Convertabiles.... I have talked to people that have had good luck, and some that were not satisfied.
Also that is what they got with using Urethane Spring Isolators with the springs so yours will differ if you use the stock rubber isolators or a different brand than Maximum Motorsports.

First you have to decide on your level of tolerance for a rough ride, being 43 years old, my tolerance was pretty low, but still wanted to get rid of the nose dive under heavy breaking on my cobra. Stock on mine are 400 lb/in on front and I believe 160 bl/in on rear.

I would give the Tech guys at Maximum Motorsports a call (1-800-544-8748). I did and they put me on the right track.. Just tell them what you are wanting to do and they will make sure you get what you need. I did and they recommended the new Eiback Pro Kit, with the Bilstein shocks and struts.

Also what else did you do or are planning to do with the suspension??

So far on mine I have done the following this winter:
MM Strut Tower Brace
MM Full Length SubFrame Connectors
Hotchkis Caster Camber Plates
EBC Sport Rotors
EBC Green Stuff break Pads
Stainless Steel brake lines
Eibach Pro Kit ( On the way )
Bilstein Struts and shocks ( On the way )

Sorry for the long post.... Think I have had too much coffee this morning...

thanks voodoochild, i just talked to my local speed shop and they steered me into the eibach pro kit also, they also gave me a good deal (180.00 cash) and said they werent going to be as bumpy as my current combo of bbk progressive front and jamex progressive rears , both with who knows what spring rates, btw do you know the spring rates for the pro kit? mine is a convertible with mm full lenght subframes, mm strut tower brace, and stock struts and shocks (still saving up for my bilsteins :( ) i am only 23 but i dont like a bone jarring ride!

"The Eibach springs (both pro and sport) do not have decernable spring rates according to Eibach themselves. They are true progressive rate springs that have a "flexible" rate. Depending on if it's a speed bump or a pot hole or otherwise, the tension of the spring changes accordingly."

That was basically the answer that I got when I asked the same question... So I guess that they are not really gonna tell us.... LOL

From what I was told when I talked to the guys at MM, this is more along the lines of what I am wanting from my suspension. I do not drive it very much, but the wife and I like to take "weekender" trips in it, so it has to not only look good, but ride good. I am sure that everyone would love to have a mustang that would handle like an SCCA class vehicle. Maybe someday I will build a "cone killer" and go do the autoX thing. But when I do it will not be a Vert.. So this one I will just do the best I can to make it perform within my confort zone... Cause no matter what people tell you or recommend as "What you should do to your car" The important part is that it is YOUR CAR and what makes you happy is the right part... :D

I'm happy with H&R Race springs.

Ride quality is fine and the handling is incredible. Nose dive is a thing of the past. Body roll in turns is nearly gone, so the car stays flat allowing more traction. I don't race, but this sure is nice for curvy roads and high speeds.

I don't race, but I wouldn't do Race springs without Bilsteins or other shocks/struts capable of dampening them correctly. Otherwise, the ride would be horrible. To me, it is a little bit harsher than stock, but not much. The handling improvements are worth it big time. Be prepared to spend $$$.

I love my H&R Super Sports.
I wanted a 2 inch drop compared to the 1 and a half the Eibachs would get.
Honestly, I wouldn't get anything else. I love my H&Rs.

The front went down exactly 2 inches
and the back went down just past 1.6 inches now

The ride quality is not much worse...
better than I would have expected with the drop! :P
and i run stock struts & shocks

They get the
:nice: :nice:

am i not going to be happy with the pro kits? i just want a smooth ride, with eibach not advertising spring rates does that make the springs cheaper? maybe lower quality? eibach is a big name so i would assume there springs are good.

It aaaaaaaall depends.
The Eibach Pro Kit will give you a higher lift
The H&R Super Sports will slam your car more.

If you want a smooth ride, but a really LOW look, you're going to have to spend some real cash on suspension, but if you just want to lower your car but still keep a nice really smooth stock ride? get the eibachs.
I used to own Eibach Sportlines on my fox body and I liked them. I don't think Eibach makes sportlines for our verts (at least I haven't see any, any site i've ever read, even their own official site says their sportlines are for the coupes only), I wanted a slam so that's why I went with the H&R. they are good springs, no doubt, but you will notice a ride change... nothing extreme, but definitely noticable.
hope that helps.
